But Rehoboam rejected the advice the elders gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him.

你要听劝告，受管教，好使你将来作个有智慧的人。

王不接受这些老人的意见，却去和那些同他一起长大，侍立在他面前的年轻人商议，

你们既轻忽我的一切劝告，不肯接受我的责备；

因此，耶和华向亚玛谢发怒，于是差派一位先知去见他，对他说：“这民族的神不能拯救自己的人民脱离你的手，你为什么还寻求它们呢？”先知向王讲话的时候，王对他说：“我们立了你作王的谋士吗？住口吧！你要挨打吗？”先知就住口，可是又说：“我知道神已定意消灭你，因为你作了这事，又不听从我的劝戒。”

不接受我的劝告，轻视我的一切责备；

智慧人的心向右，愚昧人的心偏左。愚昧人连走路的时候，也显出无知；他对每一个人表现出他是个愚昧人（“他对每一个人表现出他是个愚昧人”或译：“他称每一个人都是愚昧的”）。

要使人晓得智慧和教训，了解充满哲理的言语；使人领受明慧的教训，就是公义、公正和正直；使愚蒙人变成精明，使少年人获得知识和明辨的能力；使智慧人听了，可以增长学问，使聪明人听了，可以获得智谋；

智慧人的责备在听从的人耳中，好像金耳环和精金的饰物。
