他们建议说：“现今王若像仆人一样服侍民众，对他们好言相待，他们会永远做王的仆人。”

长老对他说：“今天如果王作这民的仆人，服事他们，用好话回答他们，他们就常作王的仆人。”

曰、為今計、惟順輿情、以善言慰之、彼必永為爾僕。

老者曰、如爾今日在民前自卑如僕、從其所求、以善言答之、則彼必永為爾僕、

They replied,“ If today you will be a servant to these people and serve them and give them a favorable answer, they will always be your servants.”

They replied,“ Serve them today. Give them what they are asking for. Then they’ll always serve you.”

And they said to him,“ If you will be a servant to this people today and serve them, and speak good words to them when you answer them, then they will be your servants forever.”

The older counselors replied,“ If you are willing to be a servant to these people today and give them a favorable answer, they will always be your loyal subjects.”

They replied,“ Today if you will be a servant to this people and serve them, and if you respond to them by speaking kind words to them, they will be your servants forever.”

Then they spoke to him, saying,“ If you will be a servant to this people today, and will serve them and grant them their request, and speak pleasant words to them, then they will be your servants always.”

And they spoke to him, saying,“ If you will be a servant to these people today, and serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”

And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

They replied,“ Today if you will be a servant to these people and serve them, and if you respond to them by speaking kind words to them, they will be your servants forever.”

And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

They said to him,“ Today if you show a willingness to help these people and grant their request, they will be your servants from this time forward.”

They replied,“ If you will be a servant to this people today, and will serve them, and answer them with good words, then they will be your servants forever.”

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. (niv)

The king answered the people harshly. Rejecting the advice given him by the elders, (niv)

If a ruler’s anger rises against you, do not leave your post; calmness can lay great offenses to rest. (niv)

Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. (niv)

Then Absalom would say to him,“ Look, your claims are valid and proper, but there is no representative of the king to hear you.”And Absalom would add,“ If only I were appointed judge in the land! Then everyone who has a complaint or case could come to me and I would see that they receive justice.”Also, whenever anyone approached him to bow down before him, Absalom would reach out his hand, take hold of him and kiss him.Absalom behaved in this way toward all the Israelites who came to the king asking for justice, and so he stole the hearts of the people of Israel. rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. So the Lord spoke kind and comforting words to the angel who talked with me. (niv)

Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime.“ How would you advise me to answer these people?” he asked.They replied,“ If you will be kind to these people and please them and give them a favorable answer, they will always be your servants.” (niv)
