They replied,“ Today if you will be a servant to this people and serve them, and if you respond to them by speaking kind words to them, they will be your servants forever.”

老年人对他说：“现在王若服侍这民如仆人，用好话回答他们，他们就永远作王的仆人。”

他们对他说：“现在王若像仆人一样服事这百姓，用好话回覆他们，他们就永远作王的仆人了。”

他们建议说：“现今王若像仆人一样服侍民众，对他们好言相待，他们会永远做王的仆人。”

长老对他说：“今天如果王作这民的仆人，服事他们，用好话回答他们，他们就常作王的仆人。”

老年人對他說：『今天王若肯做這人民的公僕而服事他們，回答他們時對他們說好話，他們就必日日不斷地做王的僕人。』

僉曰、今日爾若願為斯民之僕、而服事之、答以善言、彼必永為爾僕、

曰、為今計、惟順輿情、以善言慰之、彼必永為爾僕。

老者曰、如爾今日在民前自卑如僕、從其所求、以善言答之、則彼必永為爾僕、

They replied,“ If today you will be a servant to these people and serve them and give them a favorable answer, they will always be your servants.”

They replied,“ Serve them today. Give them what they are asking for. Then they’ll always serve you.”

And they said to him,“ If you will be a servant to this people today and serve them, and speak good words to them when you answer them, then they will be your servants forever.”

The older counselors replied,“ If you are willing to be a servant to these people today and give them a favorable answer, they will always be your loyal subjects.”

Then they spoke to him, saying,“ If you will be a servant to this people today, and will serve them and grant them their request, and speak pleasant words to them, then they will be your servants always.”

And they spoke to him, saying,“ If you will be a servant to these people today, and serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”

And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

They replied,“ Today if you will be a servant to these people and serve them, and if you respond to them by speaking kind words to them, they will be your servants forever.”

And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

They said to him,“ Today if you show a willingness to help these people and grant their request, they will be your servants from this time forward.”

They replied,“ If you will be a servant to this people today, and will serve them, and answer them with good words, then they will be your servants forever.”

A gentle answer turns away anger, but a harsh word stirs up wrath.

Then the king answered the people harshly. He rejected the advice the elders had given him

If the ruler’s anger rises against you, don’t leave your post, for calmness puts great offenses to rest.

But it is not so among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant,and whoever wants to be first among you will be a slave to all.

Absalom said to him,“ Look, your claims are good and right, but the king does not have anyone to listen to you.”He added,“ If only someone would appoint me judge in the land. Then anyone who had a grievance or dispute could come to me, and I would make sure he received justice.”When a person approached to pay homage to him, Absalom reached out his hand, took hold of him, and kissed him.Absalom did this to all the Israelites who came to the king for a settlement. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man,he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross.For this reason God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name,so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow— in heaven and on earth and under the earth—and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The LORD replied with kind and comforting words to the angel who was speaking with me.

Then King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had attended his father Solomon when he was alive, asking,“ How do you advise me to respond to this people?”They replied,“ If you will be kind to this people and please them by speaking kind words to them, they will be your servants forever.”
