说：“那要统治你们的王将这样治理你们：他必征用你们的儿子，派他们作他的战车兵、骑兵、在车前奔走的前锋，又派他们作千夫长、五十夫长，替他耕田、收他的庄稼、替他制造作战的武器和战车上的装备。他必征用你们的女儿作配香膏的、烧饭的和烤饼的。他必夺去你们最好的田地、葡萄园和橄榄园，赐给自己的臣仆。你们撒种所得的和葡萄园所出的，他都征收十分之一，赐给他的太监和臣仆。他又必征收你们的仆婢、最精壮的青年和驴，替他工作。你们的羊群，他要征收十分之一；连你们自己也作他的奴仆。到时，你们必因你们为自己拣选的王而哀求，那时耶和华却不应允你们。”

所罗门在全以色列立了十二个官员；他们为王和王家供应食物，每人每年供应一个月。

这是所罗门王征召服劳役的建筑耶和华的殿和他自己的王宫，以及米罗、耶路撒冷的城墙、夏琐、米吉多和基色的记录。

“你父亲使我们所负的轭甚重，现在求你减轻你父亲加在我们身上的劳役和重轭，我们就服事你。”罗波安对他们说：“三天以后你们再来见我吧！”众人就离去了。

我心里柔和谦卑，你们应当负我的轭，向我学习，你们就必得着心灵的安息；我的轭是容易负的，我的担子是轻省的。”

他们把重担捆起来，压在人的肩头上，但自己连一个指头也不肯动。

犹大人和以色列人很多，像海边的沙那样多；他们都吃喝、快乐。所罗门统治列国，从大河到非利士地，直到埃及的边界。这些国家，在所罗门在世的日子，都向他进贡，服事他。所罗门每天的食物是细面粉五千公升、粗面粉一万公升、肥牛十头、草场的牛二十头、羊一百只，此外还有鹿、羚羊、狍子和肥禽。因为所罗门统治大河西边，从提弗萨直到迦萨的全境和大河西边的列王，所以他的四境都平安无事。所罗门在世的日子，犹大和以色列人从但到别是巴，都各在自己的葡萄树下和无花果树下安然居住。

至于以色列人，所罗门却没有使他们作奴仆，而是作他的战士、臣仆、统领、军长、战车长和骑兵长。所罗门有督工五百五十人，负责管理作工的人和监督工程。
