“将来管辖你们的王会征用你们的儿子做他的战车兵、骑兵，要他们跑在他的战车前面。他会派一些人做千夫长、五十夫长，一些人为他耕种田地、收割庄稼，一些人制造兵器和战车的装备。他会把你们的女儿带走，要她们给他造香膏、煮饭和烤饼。他会夺去你们最好的田地、葡萄园和橄榄园，送给他的臣仆。他会从你们的粮食和葡萄园的出产中收取十分之一，送给他的官员和臣仆。他会征用你们的仆婢及最好的牛和驴来为他效劳。他会拿去你们羊群的十分之一，并让你们做他的奴仆。将来你们会因所选之王的压迫而呼求耶和华，耶和华却不会垂听你们。”

所罗门在以色列全国设立了十二个地方官，负责供给王及王室的需用，每年每人负责一个月。

所罗门征召劳役兴建耶和华的殿、自己的王宫、米罗堡和耶路撒冷的城墙以及夏琐、米吉多和基色。

“你父亲使我们负担沉重，求你减轻我们的负担吧，我们一定效忠你。”罗波安对他们说：“你们三天之后再来见我。”众人就离开了。

我心柔和谦卑，你们要负我的轭，向我学习，这样你们的心灵必得享安息。因为我的轭容易负，我的担子很轻省。”

他们捆好重担放在别人肩上，而自己连一根指头也不肯动！

犹大人和以色列人多如海沙，丰衣足食，生活幸福。所罗门统管列国，从幼发拉底河至非利士，直到埃及边界。所罗门在世的日子，列国都年年进贡称臣。王室每天用三千公斤细面粉、六千公斤粗面粉、十头肥牛、二十头草场的牛、一百只羊，此外还有鹿、羚羊、狍子及肥禽。所罗门统治幼发拉底河西面所有的国家，从提弗萨直到迦萨，四境安宁。所罗门在世的时候，从但到别示巴的犹大人和以色列人都在自己的葡萄树和无花果树下安居。

所罗门王没有让以色列人服劳役，而是让他们做战士、官长、统帅、将领、战车长和骑兵长。他还任命五百五十名监工负责监管工人。
