After seeking advice, the king made two golden calves. He said to the people,“ It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”

So King Jeroboam asked for advice. Then he made two golden statues that looked like calves. He said to the people,“ It’s too hard for you to go up to Jerusalem. Israel, here are your gods who brought you up out of Egypt.”

So the king took counsel and made two calves of gold. And he said to the people,“ You have gone up to Jerusalem long enough. Behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”

So on the advice of his counselors, the king made two gold calves. He said to the people,“ It is too much trouble for you to worship in Jerusalem. Look, Israel, these are the gods who brought you out of Egypt!”

So the king sought advice. Then he made two golden calves, and he said to the people,“ Going to Jerusalem is too difficult for you. Israel, here are your gods who brought you up from the land of Egypt.”

So the king consulted, and he made two golden calves; and he said to the people,“ It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem; behold your gods, Israel, that brought you up from the land of Egypt.”

And he received the gold from their hand, and he fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molded calf. Then they said,“ This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!”

They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said,‘ This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!’”

So they left all the commandments of the Lord their God, made for themselves a molded image and two calves, made a wooden image and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.

However Jehu did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin, that is, from the golden calves that were at Bethel and Dan.

“ They set up kings, but not by Me; They made princes, but I did not acknowledge them. From their silver and gold They made idols for themselves— That they might be cut off.Your calf is rejected, O Samaria! My anger is aroused against them— How long until they attain to innocence?For from Israel is even this: A workman made it, and it is not God; But the calf of Samaria shall be broken to pieces.“ They sow the wind, And reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no bud; It shall never produce meal. If it should produce, Aliens would swallow it up.

Then he appointed for himself priests for the high places, for the demons, and the calf idols which he had made.

And the Lord commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that you might observe them in the land which you cross over to possess.“ Take careful heed to yourselves, for you saw no form when the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire,lest you act corruptly and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of any figure: the likeness of male or female,the likeness of any animal that is on the earth or the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air,the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground or the likeness of any fish that is in the water beneath the earth.

The inhabitants of Samaria fear Because of the calf of Beth Aven. For its people mourn for it, And its priests shriek for it— Because its glory has departed from it.The idol also shall be carried to Assyria As a present for King Jareb. Ephraim shall receive shame, And Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.

Who say to the seers,“ Do not see,” And to the prophets,“ Do not prophesy to us right things; Speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits.

But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him, and consulted the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.And he said to them,“ What advice do you give? How should we answer this people who have spoken to me, saying,‘ Lighten the yoke which your father put on us’?”

come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the land.”

“ Woe to the rebellious children,” says the Lord,“ Who take counsel, but not of Me, And who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, That they may add sin to sin;

While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.

“ You shall not make for yourself a carved image— any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;
