Then the Roman army will come and destroy both our Temple and our nation.”Caiaphas, who was high priest at that time, said,“ You don’t know what you’re talking about!You don’t realize that it’s better for you that one man should die for the people than for the whole nation to be destroyed.”

“ What should we do with these men?” they asked each other.“ We can’t deny that they have performed a miraculous sign, and everybody in Jerusalem knows about it.But to keep them from spreading their propaganda any further, we must warn them not to speak to anyone in Jesus’ name again.”

Israel is no stronger than its capital, Samaria, and Samaria is no stronger than its king, Pekah son of Remaliah. Unless your faith is firm, I cannot make you stand firm.”

When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself,“ If this man were a prophet, he would know what kind of woman is touching him. She’s a sinner!”
