亚撒的军队，拿大盾牌和矛枪的犹大人，共有三十万；拿小盾牌和拉弓的便雅悯人，共有二十八万；他们都是英勇的战士。

约押把数点人民的数目呈报大卫：全以色列能拿刀的人，共有一百一十万；犹大能拿刀的人，共有四十七万。

他们的数目，按着他们的家族记在下面：犹大支派的千夫长中，有押拿军长，率领英勇的战士三十万；在押拿底下，是约哈难军长，率领二十八万人；在约哈难底下，是细基利的儿子亚玛斯雅，他是个甘愿献身给耶和华的人，率领英勇的战士二十万。便雅悯支派中有英勇的战士以利雅大，率领配备弓箭和盾牌的人二十万，在以利雅大底下是约萨拔，率领常备军十八万。这些人都是服事王的；还有王在犹大全地各设防城里安置的，没有计算在内。

任何智慧、聪明、谋略都不能敌挡耶和华。马是为打仗之日预备的，胜利却在于耶和华。

亚撒呼求耶和华他的神说：“耶和华啊，强弱悬殊，除你以外没有别的帮助。耶和华我们的神啊，求你帮助我们。因为我们倚靠你，奉你的名去对抗这大军。耶和华啊，你是我们的神，不要让人胜过你。”
