So the king did not listen to the people, for this turn of events was from the Lord, to fulfill the word the Lord had spoken to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah the Shilonite.

So the king didn’t listen to the people. That’s because the Lord had planned it that way. What he had said through Ahijah came true. Ahijah had spoken the Lord’ s message to Jeroboam, the son of Nebat. Ahijah was from Shiloh.

Now his father and mother did not realize this was the LORD’s doing, because he was looking for an opportunity to stir up trouble with the Philistines( for at that time the Philistines were ruling Israel).

But King Sihon of Heshbon was unwilling to allow us to pass near him because the LORD our God had made him obstinate and stubborn so that he might deliver him over to you this very day.

But Amaziah did not heed the warning, for God wanted to hand them over to Joash because they followed the gods of Edom.

Now when the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and made four shares, one for each soldier, and the tunic remained.( Now the tunic was seamless, woven from top to bottom as a single piece.)So the soldiers said to one another,“ Let’s not tear it, but throw dice to see who will get it.” This took place to fulfill the scripture that says,“ They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they threw dice.” So the soldiers did these things.

Ahijah was wearing a brand new robe,and he grabbed the robe and tore it into twelve pieces.Then he told Jeroboam,“ Take ten pieces, for this is what the LORD God of Israel says:‘ Look, I am about to tear the kingdom from Solomon’s hand and I will give ten tribes to you.He will retain one tribe, for my servant David’s sake and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel.I am taking the kingdom from him because they have abandoned me and worshiped the Sidonian goddess Astarte, the Moabite god Chemosh, and the Ammonite god Milcom. They have not followed my instructions by doing what I approve and obeying my rules and regulations, like Solomon’s father David did.I will not take the whole kingdom from his hand. I will allow him to be ruler for the rest of his life for the sake of my chosen servant David who kept my commandments and rules.I will take the kingdom from the hand of his son and give ten tribes to you.I will leave his son one tribe so my servant David’s dynasty may continue to serve me in Jerusalem, the city I have chosen as my home.I will select you; you will rule over all you desire to have and you will be king over Israel.You must obey all I command you to do, follow my instructions, do what I approve, and keep my rules and commandments, like my servant David did. Then I will be with you and establish for you a lasting dynasty, as I did for David; I will give you Israel.

The Preeminent One of Israel does not go back on his word or change his mind, for he is not a human being who changes his mind.”

So now, look, the LORD has placed a lying spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours; but the LORD has decreed disaster for you.”

For the people who live in Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize him, and they fulfilled the sayings of the prophets that are read every Sabbath by condemning him.Though they found no basis for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed.When they had accomplished everything that was written about him, they took him down from the cross and placed him in a tomb.

So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the two men who had been crucified with Jesus, first the one and then the other.But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and blood and water flowed out immediately.And the person who saw it has testified( and his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth), so that you also may believe.For these things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled,“ Not a bone of his will be broken.”And again another scripture says,“ They will look on the one whom they have pierced.”

And now, brothers, I know you acted in ignorance, as your rulers did too.

All the inhabitants of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he wishes with the army of heaven and with those who inhabit the earth. No one slaps his hand and says to him,‘ What have you done?’

Therefore take note that not one of the judgments the LORD announced against Ahab’s dynasty has failed to materialize. The LORD had done what he announced through his servant Elijah.”

who announces the end from the beginning and reveals beforehand what has not yet occurred, who says,‘ My plan will be realized, I will accomplish what I desire,’who summons an eagle from the east, from a distant land, one who carries out my plan. Yes, I have decreed, yes, I will bring it to pass; I have formulated a plan, yes, I will carry it out.

While he was speaking, Amaziah said to him,“ Did we appoint you to be a royal counselor? Stop prophesying or else you will be killed!” So the prophet stopped, but added,“ I know that the LORD has decided to destroy you, because you have done this thing and refused to listen to my advice.”

Condemn them, O God! May their own schemes be their downfall! Drive them away because of their many acts of insurrection, for they have rebelled against you.

After this Jesus, realizing that by this time everything was completed, said( in order to fulfill the scripture),“ I am thirsty!”A jar full of sour wine was there, so they put a sponge soaked in sour wine on a branch of hyssop and lifted it to his mouth.

If an alarm sounds in a city, do people not fear? If disaster overtakes a city, is the LORD not responsible?

You said to yourself,“ I will climb up to the sky. Above the stars of El I will set up my throne. I will rule on the mountain of assembly on the remote slopes of Zaphon.I will climb up to the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High!”But you were brought down to Sheol, to the remote slopes of the pit.Those who see you stare at you, they look at you carefully, thinking:“ Is this the man who shook the earth, the one who made kingdoms tremble?Is this the one who made the world like a desert, who ruined its cities, and refused to free his prisoners so they could return home?”’

Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said,“ The advice of Hushai the Arkite sounds better than the advice of Ahithophel.” Now the LORD had decided to frustrate the sound advice of Ahithophel, so that the LORD could bring disaster on Absalom.
