从前以色列王所罗门在耶路撒冷前、邪僻山右边为西顿人可憎的神亚斯他录、摩押人可憎的神基抹、亚扪人可憎的神米勒公所筑的邱坛，王都污秽了，

因为他离弃我，敬拜西顿人的女神亚斯他录、摩押的神基抹，和亚扪人的神米勒公，没有遵从我的道，行我眼中看为正的事，守我的律例典章，像他父亲大卫一样。

撒母耳对以色列全家说：“你们若一心归顺耶和华，就要把外邦的神和亚斯他录从你们中间除掉，专心归向耶和华，单单地侍奉他。他必救你们脱离非利士人的手。”以色列人就除掉诸巴力和亚斯他录，单单地侍奉耶和华。

以色列人又行耶和华眼中看为恶的事，去侍奉诸巴力和亚斯他录，并亚兰的神、西顿的神、摩押的神、亚扪人的神、非利士人的神，离弃耶和华，不侍奉他。

不可使你的儿女经火归与摩洛，也不可亵渎你神的名。我是耶和华。

“你还要晓谕以色列人说：凡以色列人，或是在以色列中寄居的外人，把自己的儿女献给摩洛的，总要治死他；本地人要用石头把他打死。我也要向那人变脸，把他从民中剪除；因为他把儿女献给摩洛，玷污我的圣所，亵渎我的圣名。那人把儿女献给摩洛，本地人若佯为不见，不把他治死，我就要向这人和他的家变脸，把他和一切随他与摩洛行邪淫的人都从民中剪除。

他们就呼求耶和华说：‘我们离弃耶和华，侍奉巴力和亚斯他录，是有罪了。现在求你救我们脱离仇敌的手，我们必侍奉你。’

与那些在房顶上敬拜天上万象的，并那些敬拜耶和华指着他起誓，又指着玛勒堪起誓的，

你们且过到基提海岛去察看，打发人往基达去留心查考，看曾有这样的事没有。岂有一国换了他的神吗？其实这不是神！但我的百姓将他们的荣耀换了那无益的神。诸天哪，要因此惊奇，极其恐慌，甚为凄凉！这是耶和华说的。因为我的百姓做了两件恶事，就是离弃我这活水的泉源，为自己凿出池子，是破裂不能存水的池子。”
