所羅門聞此、欲殺耶羅破暗、耶羅破暗遁於埃及、覲埃及王示撒、居於其國、迨所羅門薨、而後旋歸。

羅波安王第五年，埃及王示撒上來攻打耶路撒冷，因為他們背叛了耶和華。示撒帶着一千二百輛戰車，六萬名騎兵，以及跟隨他從埃及出來的路比人、蘇基人和古實人的軍隊，多得不可勝數。他攻取了猶大的堅固城，來到耶路撒冷。那時，猶大的領袖因為示撒的緣故聚集在耶路撒冷，有先知示瑪雅去見羅波安和眾領袖，對他們說：「耶和華如此說：『你們離棄了我，所以我也離棄你們，把你們交在示撒手裏。』」於是以色列的領袖和王都謙卑說：「耶和華是公義的。」耶和華見他們謙卑，耶和華的話就臨到示瑪雅，說：「他們既謙卑，我必不滅絕他們；我要使他們暫時得拯救，不藉着示撒的手將我的怒氣倒在耶路撒冷。然而他們必作示撒的僕人，好叫他們知道，服事我與服事地上邦國有何分別。」於是，埃及王示撒上來攻取耶路撒冷，奪了耶和華殿和王宮裏的寶物，盡都帶走，又奪走所羅門製造的金盾牌。

萬軍之耶和華起誓說：「我怎樣思想，必照樣成就；我怎樣定意，必照樣堅立，要在我的地上擊破亞述，在我的山上將它踐踏。它的軛必離開受壓制的人，它的重擔必離開他們的肩頭。」這是向全地所定的旨意，向萬國所伸出的手。萬軍之耶和華既然定意，誰能阻撓呢？他的手已經伸出，誰能使它縮回呢？

亞撒惱恨先見，為了這事向他發怒，將他囚在監裏。那時亞撒也虐待一些百姓。

沒有人能以智慧、聰明、謀略抵擋耶和華。

若非主發命令，誰能說了就成呢？

我從起初就指明末後的事，從古時便言明未成的事，說：「我的籌算必立定；凡我所喜悅的，我必成就。」
