所羅門聞此、欲殺耶羅破暗、耶羅破暗遁於埃及、覲埃及王示撒、居於其國、迨所羅門薨、而後旋歸。

羅波安王執政第五年，埃及王示撒上來攻打耶路撒冷，因為猶大君民對耶和華不忠。示撒率領一千二百輛戰車、六萬騎兵及無數的路比人、蘇基人和古實人。他攻陷了猶大的堅城，直逼耶路撒冷。那時，猶大各首領因為戰事都聚集在耶路撒冷。示瑪雅先知去見羅波安和眾首領，對他們說：「耶和華說，『你們背棄了我，所以我也要離棄你們，把你們交在示撒手中。』」王與以色列的眾首領聽了，就謙卑下來說：「耶和華是公義的。」耶和華見他們謙卑下來，就對示瑪雅說：「既然他們謙卑下來，我就不滅絕他們，給他們留一條生路。我也不會藉示撒向耶路撒冷傾倒我的憤怒。然而，他們必做示撒的僕人，好讓他們體驗事奉我和服侍世上的君王的不同。」埃及王示撒帶兵攻陷了耶路撒冷，把耶和華殿裡和王宮裡的財寶及所羅門造的金盾牌擄掠一空。

萬軍之耶和華起誓說：「我的計劃必實現，我的旨意必成就。我必在我的土地上擊垮亞述人，在我的山上踐踏他們，除去他們加在我子民身上的軛和重擔。這是我對全世界所定的計劃，是向列國伸出的懲罰之手。」萬軍之耶和華定了計劃，誰能阻撓呢？祂的手已經伸出，誰能叫祂收回呢？

亞撒聽了就對先見發怒，把他囚禁在監獄裡，同時又壓迫一些民眾。

任何智慧、悟性和謀略，都不能對抗耶和華。

若非主許可，誰的話可以兌現呢？

我從太初就預言末後的事，從亙古就宣佈將來的事。我的旨意必成就，我的計劃必實現。

羅波安王執政第五年，埃及王示撒上來攻陷耶路撒冷，搶走了耶和華的殿和王宮裡所有的寶物，包括所羅門製造的金盾牌。
