As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been.

所羅門用二十年的時間興建了耶和華的殿和自己的王宮。

「我兒所羅門啊，你要認識你父親的上帝耶和華，誠心樂意地事奉祂，因為祂洞察人心，知道人一切的心思意念。倘若你尋求祂，祂必讓你尋見；倘若你背棄祂，祂必永遠丟棄你。

耶和華與約沙法同在，因為他效法他祖先大衛起初所行的，沒有尋求巴力，

雖然他沒有拆毀邱壇，但他一生忠於耶和華。

他做耶和華視為正的事，只是沒有全心去做。

因為他們會讓你們的兒女離棄耶和華去拜其他神明，以致耶和華向你們發怒，迅速毀滅你們。

他做耶和華視為正的事，效法他祖先大衛，不偏不離。

亞比央和他父親一樣作惡多端，沒有像他祖先大衛一樣忠於他的上帝耶和華。

求你賜給我兒所羅門忠誠的心，以遵行你的誡命、法度和律例，用我預備的材料全力建造殿宇。」

若你像我僕人大衛一樣聽從我的一切吩咐，遵行我的道，做我視為正的事，遵守我的律例誡命，我就與你同在，鞏固你的王朝，像鞏固大衛的王朝一樣，使你統治以色列。

「耶和華啊，求你顧念我怎樣全心、忠誠地事奉你，做你視為善的事。」希西迦痛哭起來。

所羅門的兒子羅波安做猶大王。他四十一歲登基，在耶路撒冷，就是耶和華從以色列眾支派中選擇來立祂名的城執政十七年。羅波安的母親是亞捫人拿瑪。

所羅門在做以色列王的第四年二月，即西弗月，開始為耶和華建殿。那時正是以色列人離開埃及後第四百八十年。

他不可擁有許多妃嬪，恐怕他的心會偏離耶和華，也不可為自己積蓄大量金銀。

「關於你所建的這殿，若你遵行我的律例，順從我的典章，謹守我的一切誡命，我必實現我對你父親大衛的應許。我必住在以色列人當中，不拋棄我的以色列子民。」

希西迦在猶大全境都如此行，做他的上帝耶和華視為良善、正直和忠心的事。無論是在上帝的殿中事奉，還是遵行律法和誡命，他都尋求他的上帝，盡心去做。因此，他行事順利。

所羅門在耶路撒冷統治以色列四十年，

耶和華曾告訴以色列人不可跟這些外族人通婚，免得受引誘去隨從他們的神明，所羅門卻迷戀這些女子。
