Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said,“ I will be king.” So he got chariots and horses ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him.

Adonijah was the son of David and his wife Haggith. He came forward and announced,“ I’m going to be the next king.” So he got chariots and horses ready. He also got 50 men to run in front of him.

Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying,“ I will be king.” And he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

About that time David’s son Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, began boasting,“ I will make myself king.” So he provided himself with chariots and charioteers and recruited fifty men to run in front of him.

Adonijah son of Haggith kept exalting himself, saying,“ I will be king!” He prepared chariots, cavalry, and fifty men to run ahead of him.

Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying,“ I will be king.” So he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, with fifty men to run before him.

Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying,“ I will be king”; and he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

Now Adonijah, son of David and Haggith, was promoting himself, boasting,“ I will be king!” He managed to acquire chariots and horsemen, as well as fifty men to serve as his royal guard.

After this, Absalom prepared a chariot and horses for himself, and fifty men to run before him.

and the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;

Of all my sons( for Yahweh has given me many sons), he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of Yahweh’s kingdom over Israel.

because you still exalt yourself against my people, that you won’t let them go.

you shall surely set him whom Yahweh your God chooses as king over yourselves. You shall set as king over you one from among your brothers. You may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother.Only he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he may multiply horses; because Yahweh has said to you,“ You shall not go back that way again.”

David the king said to all the assembly,“ Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for Yahweh God.

Their land is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures. Their land also is full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots.

I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

“ Please speak in the ears of all the men of Shechem,‘ Is it better for you that all the sons of Jerubbaal, who are seventy persons, rule over you, or that one rule over you?’ Remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.”

the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur; the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith;

Pride goes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.

Before destruction the heart of man is proud, but before honor is humility.

Now therefore as Yahweh lives, who has established me, and set me on my father David’s throne, and who has made me a house as he promised, surely Adonijah shall be put to death today.”

Then Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying,“ Haven’t you heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith reigns, and David our lord doesn’t know it?

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

David said,“ Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be built for Yahweh must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries. I will therefore make preparation for it.” So David prepared abundantly before his death.Then he called for Solomon his son, and commanded him to build a house for Yahweh, the God of Israel.David said to Solomon his son,“ As for me, it was in my heart to build a house to the name of Yahweh my God.But Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,‘ You have shed blood abundantly, and have made great wars. You shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight.Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of peace. I will give him rest from all his enemies all around; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.He shall build a house for my name; and he will be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’Now, my son, may Yahweh be with you and prosper you, and build the house of Yahweh your God, as he has spoken concerning you.
