Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said,“ I will be king.” So he got chariots and horses ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him.

Adonijah was the son of David and his wife Haggith. He came forward and announced,“ I’m going to be the next king.” So he got chariots and horses ready. He also got 50 men to run in front of him.

Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying,“ I will be king.” And he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

About that time David’s son Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, began boasting,“ I will make myself king.” So he provided himself with chariots and charioteers and recruited fifty men to run in front of him.

Adonijah son of Haggith kept exalting himself, saying,“ I will be king!” He prepared chariots, cavalry, and fifty men to run ahead of him.

Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying,“ I will be king”; and he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

Now Adonijah, son of David and Haggith, was promoting himself, boasting,“ I will be king!” He managed to acquire chariots and horsemen, as well as fifty men to serve as his royal guard.

Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying,“ I will be king.” Then he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

Now it came about after this that Absalom provided for himself a chariot and horses, and fifty men to run ahead of him.

and the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;

Of all my sons( for the Lord has given me many sons), He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.

Still you exalt yourself against My people by not letting them go.

you shall in fact appoint a king over you whom the Lord your God chooses. One from among your countrymen you shall appoint as king over yourselves; you may not put a foreigner over yourselves, anyone who is not your countryman.In any case, he is not to acquire many horses for himself, nor shall he make the people return to Egypt in order to acquire many horses, since the Lord has said to you,‘ You shall never again return that way.’

Then King David said to the entire assembly,“ My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is still young and inexperienced, and the work is great; for the temple is not for mankind, but for the Lord God.

Their land has also been filled with silver and gold And there is no end to their treasures; Their land has also been filled with horses, And there is no end to their chariots.

I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other one; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

“ Speak, now, in the hearing of all the leaders of Shechem,‘ Which is better for you: for seventy men, all the sons of Jerubbaal, to rule over you, or for one man to rule over you?’ Also, remember that I am your bone and your flesh.”

Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling.

Before destruction the heart of a person is haughty, But humility goes before honor.

Now then, as the Lord lives, who has established me and set me on the throne of David my father, and has made me a house just as He promised, Adonijah certainly shall be put to death today!”

Then Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying,“ Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king, and David our lord does not know it?

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

David said,“ My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the Lord shall be exceedingly magnificent, famous, and glorious throughout the lands. Therefore I now will make preparations for it.” So David made ample preparations before his death.Then he called for his son Solomon, and commanded him to build a house for the Lord God of Israel.David said to Solomon,“ My son, I had intended to build a house for the name of the Lord my God.But the word of the Lord came to me, saying,‘ You have shed much blood and have waged great wars; you shall not build a house to My name, because you have shed so much blood on the earth before Me.Behold, a son will be born to you, who shall be a man of rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side; for his name will be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days.He shall build a house for My name, and he shall be My son and I will be his Father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’Now, my son, the Lord be with you that you may be successful, and build the house of the Lord your God just as He has spoken concerning you.
