王便起誓說：『我指着那贖救我性命脫離一切患難的永活永恆主來起誓；

王發誓云、我指援我生命、脫於諸難、維生之耶和華而誓、

王發誓曰、昔我指以色列族之上帝耶和華、與爾發誓、言爾子所羅門必即我位、繼我為王、今我亦指援我於患難中之耶和華而發誓、必如是以行。

The king then took an oath:“ As surely as the Lord lives, who has delivered me out of every trouble,

Then the king made a promise. He said,“ The Lord has saved me from all my troubles. You can be sure that he lives.

And now, as surely as the Lord lives— he who has established me securely on the throne of my father David and has founded a dynasty for me as he promised— Adonijah shall be put to death today!” (niv)
