王發誓曰、昔我指以色列族之上帝耶和華、與爾發誓、言爾子所羅門必即我位、繼我為王、今我亦指援我於患難中之耶和華而發誓、必如是以行。

The king then took an oath:“ As surely as the Lord lives, who has delivered me out of every trouble,

He will redeem them from oppression and violence, for their lives are precious to him.

But Elisha replied,“ As surely as the Lord lives, whom I serve, I will not accept any gifts.” And though Naaman urged him to take the gift, Elisha refused.

Then I will send a boy to bring the arrows back. If you hear me tell him,‘ They’re on this side,’ then you will know, as surely as the Lord lives, that all is well, and there is no trouble.

Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will protect me from the anger of my enemies. You reach out your hand, and the power of your right hand saves me.

I vow by the name of the Lord who rescued Israel that the sinner will surely die, even if it is my own son Jonathan!” But no one would tell him what the trouble was.

But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha, the man of God, said to himself,“ My master should not have let this Aramean get away without accepting any of his gifts. As surely as the Lord lives, I will chase after him and get something from him.”

The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.For the Lord protects the bones of the righteous; not one of them is broken!Calamity will surely destroy the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be punished.But the Lord will redeem those who serve him. No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.

So Saul listened to Jonathan and vowed,“ As surely as the Lord lives, David will not be killed.”

But the boy’s mother said,“ As surely as the Lord lives and you yourself live, I won’t go home unless you go with me.” So Elisha returned with her.

David was furious.“ As surely as the Lord lives,” he vowed,“ any man who would do such a thing deserves to die!

the Angel who has redeemed me from all harm— may he bless these boys. May they preserve my name and the names of Abraham and Isaac. And may their descendants multiply greatly throughout the earth.”

“ They were my brothers, the sons of my own mother!” Gideon exclaimed.“ As surely as the Lord lives, I wouldn’t kill you if you hadn’t killed them.”

For I swear by the Lord your God that the king has searched every nation and kingdom on earth from end to end to find you. And each time he was told,‘ Elijah isn’t here,’ King Ahab forced the king of that nation to swear to the truth of his claim.

Now Elijah, who was from Tishbe in Gilead, told King Ahab,“ As surely as the Lord, the God of Israel, lives— the God I serve— there will be no dew or rain during the next few years until I give the word!”

But the people broke in and said to Saul,“ Jonathan has won this great victory for Israel. Should he die? Far from it! As surely as the Lord lives, not one hair on his head will be touched, for God helped him do a great deed today.” So the people rescued Jonathan, and he was not put to death.

The Lord has confirmed me and placed me on the throne of my father, David; he has established my dynasty as he promised. So as surely as the Lord lives, Adonijah will die this very day!”
