We accept human testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son.

We accept what people say when they are witnesses. But it’s more important when God is a witness. That’s because it is what God says about his Son.

If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son.

Since we believe human testimony, surely we can believe the greater testimony that comes from God. And God has testified about his Son.

天主至誠無妄、又重之以一成不變之誓、與一成不變之諾、其所以慰藉吾人、安定吾人之心者、亦云備矣。

言未已、倏焉景雲覆之、有聲出自雲間曰：『斯吾愛子、慰悅我心、爾曹其聽從之。』

予若自為證明、則吾證不足為憑、顧別有為予作證者焉、予知其所證之不妄也。爾等亦曾遣使者謁如望、而彼已為真理作證矣。雖然予不取證於人予之語此欲爾曹蒙救恩耳。如望乃輝煌之明燈、爾等亦曾瞻仰其光、而極一時之樂矣。顧為予作證者、有較如望更為重要者焉。蓋父所授予之使命、令予完成、而予今猶慘澹經營者、亦為吾證、證父實曾遣予、即遣予之父、亦已為予作證矣。爾等未嘗聆其音、亦未嘗見其形、
