If someone says,“ I love God,” and yet he hates his brother or sister, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother and sister whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.

人若言我愛天主而惡兄弟、乃為言誑者、不愛所見之兄弟、焉能愛未見之天主乎、

苟有人自言吾愛天主、而猶嫉惡其兄弟、是亦妄人也已。夫日常所見之兄弟、彼且不知愛焉、尚能愛其向所未見之天主乎。

Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.

Suppose someone claims to love God but hates a brother or sister. Then they are a liar. They don’t love their brother or sister, whom they have seen. So they can’t love God, whom they haven’t seen.

If anyone says,“ I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.

If someone says,“ I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?

If anyone says,“ I love God,” and yet hates his brother or sister, he is a liar. For the person who does not love his brother or sister whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.

But whoever has worldly goods and sees his brother or sister in need, and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God remain in him?

and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;
