話又說回來，我寫給你們的、倒是一條新的誡命：這在基督裏面在你們裏面都是真實的；因為黑暗正在過去，真的光已照耀着。

再者，我写给你们的，是一条新命令，在主是真的，在你们也是真的；因为黑暗渐渐过去，真光已经照耀。

然而，我写给你们的是一条新命令，在基督里是真实的，在你们也是真实的，因为黑暗渐渐消逝，真光已经在照耀。

雖然、吾所書者、亦可謂之新誡命、主所體認、亦爾等所體認者也。蓋暗昧寖消、而真光已著矣。

Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.

But I am writing what amounts to a new command. Its truth was shown in how Jesus lived. It is also shown in how you live. That’s because the darkness is passing away. And the true light is already shining.

那真的光、那照亮萬人的光、當時正到世界上來呢。

『我把一條新的誡命給予你們，叫你們彼此相愛；我怎樣愛了你們，你們也要怎樣彼此相愛。

在他們、今世的神已把不信之人的心意弄瞎了，以致基督（上帝的像）榮耀之福音之光照不能發曉於他們心裏。我們並不是宣傳自己，乃是宣傳基督耶穌為主，自己又為了耶穌的緣故做你們的僕人。因為那吩咐『光當從暗中照出來』的上帝照澈了我們心裏，使我們在耶穌基督臉上接受了上帝之榮耀之認識之光照。

但對你們敬畏我名的人、必有義氣之日頭昇現起來照耀你們；它的翅膀、光線、有醫治的效能。你們必騰躍着出來、像出圈的肥牛犢。

愛上帝的、也應該愛弟兄：這就是我們從上帝所受的誡命。

親愛的，上帝既然這樣地愛了我們，我們也應該彼此相愛。

我們知道我們已經從死裏越到生裏來，是因為我們愛弟兄。不愛弟兄的、還住在死裏面。凡恨弟兄的、就是殺人的：你們知道凡殺人的、沒有永生存在他裏面。主替我們放棄了性命：在這一點、我們就認識了愛了。我們呢、也應該替弟兄們放棄性命。

因為你看，冬天已經過去，雨已經下過，不下了。百花在地上出現了，百鳥鳴叫的節候已經來到，斑鳩的聲音在我們境內也聽得到了。

『你們要彼此相愛，像我愛了你們一樣；這就是我的誡命。人替朋友放棄性命；沒有愛比這個大的。你們、就是我的朋友，如果你們實行我所命令你們的。今後我不再稱你們為僕人了，因為僕人不知道主人所作的事；我乃是稱你們為朋友，因為我從我父所聽見的一切事，我都讓你們知道了。

在黑暗中行走的人民看見了大光；住在漆黑之地的人有光照耀他們。

耶穌就對他們說：『光在你們中間、還有些時。應當趁着有光時來走路，免得黑暗趕上了你們。那在黑暗中走路的、不知道往哪裏去。

這藉着他而信靠上帝的人來顯現的。上帝使基督從死人中活了起來，又將榮耀給了他，以致你們的信和盼望都釘住於上帝。
