雖然、吾所書者、亦可謂之新誡命、主所體認、亦爾等所體認者也。蓋暗昧寖消、而真光已著矣。

Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.

But I am writing what amounts to a new command. Its truth was shown in how Jesus lived. It is also shown in how you live. That’s because the darkness is passing away. And the true light is already shining.

这光是真光，来到这世界照亮每个人。

“我给你们一条新的命令：就是要你们彼此相爱，就如我爱你们，为要使你们也彼此相爱。

对于他们，这世代的神把这些不信之人的心眼弄瞎了，使他们不能洞察基督荣耀的福音之光。基督就是神的形像。实际上，我们不是传扬自己，而是传扬主耶稣基督，并且为了耶稣的缘故，我们自己做了你们的奴仆；因为那吩咐“要有光从黑暗里照耀出来”的神，已经照耀了我们的心，为要发出神荣耀的知识之光——这光就在耶稣基督的脸上。

至于你们这些敬畏我名的人，必有公义的太阳为你们升起，它的光线带来痊愈；你们必出来跳跃，像圈里的牛犊。”

这是我们从基督所领受的命令：爱神的，也要爱自己的弟兄。

各位蒙爱的人哪，既然神如此爱我们，我们也应该彼此相爱。

我们知道，因为我们爱弟兄，我们就已经出死入生了；那不爱弟兄的，就住在死亡中。凡是恨自己弟兄的，就是杀人的，而你们知道：凡是杀人的，就没有永恒的生命住在他里面。我们从这一点就知道了爱：基督为我们舍弃了自己的生命，我们也应该为弟兄舍弃生命。

这是我的命令：你们要彼此相爱，就像我爱了你们那样。一个人为他的朋友舍弃自己的生命，人的爱没有比这更大的了。你们如果遵行我所吩咐的事，你们就是我的朋友了。我不再称你们为奴仆，因为奴仆不知道主人所做的事。我却称你们为朋友，因为我把从我父所听到的一切，都让你们明白了。

行在黑暗中的百姓，看见了大光；住在死荫之地的人，有光照耀他们。

耶稣说：“光在你们当中的时候不多了。要趁着有光的时候行走，免得黑暗抓住你们！因为在黑暗里行走的人，不知道自己往哪里去。

藉着基督，你们信靠那使他从死人中复活、又赐他荣耀的神，以致你们的信仰和盼望也都在于神。
