總之、望吾小子、常寓基督懷中庶幾於彼重臨之日、吾人得具自信、而不致無顏以對。

基督就是你們的新生命，祂顯現的時候，你們也必和祂一起在榮耀中顯現。

我的孩子們，我寫這些話給你們是為了叫你們不要犯罪。如果有人犯了罪，在父那裡我們有一位護慰者，就是那位義者——耶穌基督。

「在這淫亂、罪惡的世代，如果有人以我和我的道為恥，人子在父的榮耀中與聖天使再來的時候，也要以他為恥。」

我們主耶穌再來的時候，我們在祂面前的盼望、喜樂和可誇耀的冠冕是什麼呢？不就是你們嗎？

因此，你們在殷切等候我們主耶穌基督再來的期間，並不缺少任何屬靈的恩賜。

然而，祂來臨的日子，誰能承受得了呢？祂出現的時候，誰能站立得住呢？因為祂像煉金之火，又像漂白衣裳的鹼。

要遵守這命令，做純潔無瑕、無可指責的人，一直到我們的主耶穌基督再來。

同樣，基督為了承擔世人的罪，也曾一次獻上自己。祂還要再來，不是來除罪，而是來拯救那些熱切等候祂的人。

這樣，你們的信心經過試驗便顯明是真實的，比那經過火煉仍會壞掉的金子更加寶貴，使你們可以在耶穌基督顯現時得到稱讚、榮耀和尊貴。

到那日，人們必說：「看啊，這是我們的上帝，我們信靠祂，祂拯救了我們。這是耶和華，我們信靠祂，我們要因祂的拯救而歡喜快樂。」

正如聖經上說：「看啊！我在錫安放了一塊絆腳石，一塊使人跌倒的磐石。但信靠祂的人必不致蒙羞。」
