For everything in the world— the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life— comes not from the Father but from the world.

Here is what people who belong to this world do. They try to satisfy what their sinful desires want to do. They long for what their sinful eyes look at. They take pride in what they have and what they do. All of this comes from the world. None of it comes from the Father.

For all that is in the world— the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life— is not from the Father but is from the world.

For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.

相反，要穿上主耶穌基督；不要為了私慾而在屬肉體的事上做任何安排。

求你使我的心傾向你的法度，而不向著私利。求你使我轉眼不看虛妄的事，使我在你的道路上存活。

陰間地府，從不飽足；人的眼目，也不飽足。

這種智慧不是從上面下來的，而是屬地的，屬血氣的，屬鬼魔的。

我們從前也都生活在他們中間，生活在自己肉體的欲望裡，行肉體和意念所願的事。我們正如其他人，生來也是震怒之下的兒女。

以致不再順著人的欲望，而是順著神的旨意，在世上度餘下的時間。要知道，過往的日子，你們做了外邦人願意做的事，活在好色、私慾、酗酒、荒宴、狂飲和律法所禁止的拜偶像之中——這已經夠了。

各位蒙愛的人哪，我勸你們：做為過客和寄居的，要遠避那與你們靈魂爭戰的肉體欲望。

他們心中試探神，隨著自己的慾望索要食物。

那些屬於基督耶穌的人，已經把肉體與肉體的渴望和情慾一同釘上十字架了。

這恩典管教我們，使我們拒絕不敬神的事和地上的欲望，在今世能過自制、公義、敬神的生活，

魔鬼就把耶穌領上高處，在一瞬間給他看天下萬國，

尤其對那些隨從肉體而在汙穢的欲望中生活、輕視主權者的人，更是這樣。這些人膽大、任性，毫不戰兢地褻瀆那些有榮耀的。

當他們貪得無厭，食物還在他們口中的時候，

他們說虛妄誇大的話，以肉體的欲望和好色的事來引誘人；這些被引誘的人好不容易才逃脫那些生活在迷途中的人；

其實，我們從前也是無知、悖逆、被迷惑的，做各種欲望和享樂的奴僕，活在惡毒和嫉妒中，是可憎惡的，又彼此相恨。

地上的商人也為她哭泣、悲傷，因為再也沒有人買他們的貨物了；那些貨物就是：金、銀、寶石、珍珠，細麻布、紫色布、絲綢、深紅色布，各種香木，各種象牙製品，各種極貴重的木、銅、鐵和大理石的製品，肉桂、香料、香、香液、乳香；酒、油、麵粉、麥子；牲畜、羊、馬、馬車；人的肉體和靈魂。「你心所貪戀的果子離開了你；一切珍饈美味、華麗物品，都從你那裡消逝了，人絕不能再看到它們了。」販賣這些東西的商人，就是那些由於她而發了財的人，因懼怕她所受的折磨，就會遠遠地站著，哭泣、悲傷，說：「有禍了！有禍了！宏大的城，那曾身穿細麻、紫色、深紅色衣服，以金子、寶石、珍珠為裝飾的城啊！這麼多的財富，竟然在一時之間就化為烏有了！」所有的船長、所有到處航行的人、水手們、所有靠海為業的人，都遠遠地站著。

貪愛銀子的不會因銀子滿足，貪愛財富的也不會因利益滿足。這也是虛空！財物增加，吃用的人也增加，而主人除了眼看以外，還有什麼益處呢？
