顧我本人迄未利用此制；吾之書此、亦非欲為己有所主張。何則、我寧死、不願人毀我之榮也。

But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me, for I would rather die than allow anyone to deprive me of this boast.

But I haven’t used any of those rights. And I’m not writing because I hope you will do things like that for me. I would rather die than allow anyone to take away my pride in my work.

But I have made no use of any of these rights, nor am I writing these things to secure any such provision. For I would rather die than have anyone deprive me of my ground for boasting.

Yet I have never used any of these rights. And I am not writing this to suggest that I want to start now. In fact, I would rather die than lose my right to boast about preaching without charge.

For my part I have used none of these rights, nor have I written these things that they may be applied in my case. For it would be better for me to die than for anyone to deprive me of my boast!

我在你們那裏有缺乏時，並沒有累着你們一個人；因為我的缺乏、從馬其頓來的弟兄都補足了。我向來凡事自守、不連累你們，將來也必自守。我指着在我裏面的基督之真誠來說！這誇口、在亞該亞地帶、是不會在我身上被堵住的。為甚麼呢？是因為我不愛你們麼？上帝知道。但我現在所作的、將來還要作，好截掉那些願得機會之人的機會，使他們在所誇口的事上能被人看出是企圖要跟我們平等。

別人在你們身上尚且分享權利，何況我們呢？然而這權利、我們總沒有用過；我們反倒凡事忍受，免得對基督的福音給予阻礙。

也沒有白喫過甚麼人的飯，倒是辛苦勞碌、黑夜白日地作工，免得加重你們任何人的負擔。

因為他們同手藝，就和他們同住作工：以手藝說、他們是製造帳棚的。

弟兄們，你們記得我們怎樣地辛苦勞碌：我們將上帝的福音宣傳給你們的時候、怎樣黑夜白日地作工，免得加重你們任何人的負擔。

你們自己知道，我這兩隻手供應了我和我同伴的需用。

勞勞苦苦，親手作工；被辱罵，我們就祝福；受逼迫，我們就忍受；

凡使這些信我的微小者之一個絆跌的，就使一塊驢牽的磨石掛在他的脖子上，沉在海洋裏，對於他還有益。

除了我本人不連累你們這一件事以外，你們還有甚麼被壓下、以致不如其餘的教會呢？這個委屈、你們饒恕我吧！你看，這是我準備好了、要第三次到你們那裏去的；我也不會連累你們。因為我求的並不是你們的財物，乃是你們自己；因為不是兒女為父母積蓄，而是父母為兒女。論到我嘛、我頂喜歡地為你們開費，以至於費盡了我自己。是不是我越發愛你們，就該越發少得你們的愛呢？罷了！我沒有拖累着你們，我卻是『乖性狡猾，用詭詐牢籠你們的』！我所差遣到你們那裏去的人、我何曾藉着其中的哪一位去佔你們的便宜呢？我勸了提多到你們那裏去，又差遣那位兄弟一同去；提多何曾佔了你們的便宜呢？我們沒有順着同一的靈而行麼？沒有跟着同一個的腳蹤麼？

掃羅卻殘害教會，走進各家，拖着男女，送去下監。

但我不為性命作甚麼計算，而看為對自己有價值；比較起來，倒不如完盡了我的跑程、和我從主耶穌所領受的執事職任，鄭重證明上帝恩惠之福音。

按着我熱切的期待和盼望、在任何事上我都不至於羞愧，倒能以十二分放膽的心、或藉着活、或藉着死、總讓基督在我身體上、現今仍和素常一樣、都被尊為大。因為在我看，活着就是基督，死去也是贏得。但若繼續在肉身活着呢，這能讓我多結工作的果子；那我要怎樣選擇呢、我也不曉得。我被困迫於兩難之間，一方面切願着撤離世間、去和基督同在，那更好得多；
