But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me, for I would rather die than allow anyone to deprive me of this boast.

前次吾在爾處、雖甚貧乏、亦未曾有累於爾、一惟仰給於來自馬其頓之兄弟。蓋吾在在以相累為戒、過去如此、今後亦當如此。我一日抱基督之道、無人能令吾之所以自誇於亞該亞境內者、中途而廢也。然吾亦胡為而出此乎？謂我不爾愛乎？主實鑒之！顧吾之所以為此、且願守此不渝者、不欲予人以口實、而謂若輩之所誇亦同乎吾儕之所誇耳。

他人尚且對爾享此權利、況吾儕乎？然吾儕向未行使此權、而甘受困乏者、蓋不欲在基督福音道上、置任何之障礙也。

亦未嘗仰給於人、惟日夜躬自操作、以免加累於爾。

葆樂訪之、因其亦以製幕為業、遂與同寓而經營焉。

兄弟當猶憶吾儕傳授天主福音時之如何艱辛困苦、躬自操作、夙夜不遑、以免加爾之累。

我與從者所需、悉憑此兩手以供之；此乃爾所應知也。

躬自操作、不遑寧處；被人詬誶、我則福之；被人凌虐、我則耐之；

苟使信我之一介小子墮入罪中、不如磨石繫頸、沉諸淵海之為愈也。

且爾等所受之寵惠、亦何一不如其他教會乎？有所不如者、其惟吾之不以生計相累乎？吾望爾等勿以此見罪！爾等其注意、我欲第三次就爾、仍不擬增爾負擔。蓋吾所求者爾也、非爾之所有也。且兒女本無積財與父母之義務、惟父母對於兒女則有此義務耳。吾為爾等靈魂之故、固不惜任何之犧牲、即犧牲本身、亦所甘心。豈吾之愛爾愈厚、而爾之愛我愈薄耶？或曰：正惟彼不累爾、彼蓋矯情以取信、將間接貽爾以大累耳。然則吾豈曾假所遣之人、佔爾便宜耶？我曾慫恿提多至爾處、並遣發一兄弟與之偕、提多曾佔爾便宜乎？吾儕豈非表裏如一、心跡雙清者乎。

而掃羅則蹂躪教會、擅入人宅、逮捕男女信徒、下之於獄。

然吾於生命置之度外、無所顧惜。但望能完成吾之行程、及所受於主耶穌之使命、以證天主恩寵之福音而已。

亦所以償吾心期、終不致有所愧忝。因是平生勇氣、至今未衰。必欲獻吾之身、以弘基督。生可也、死亦可也。自予觀之、生是基督死是福、如是而已矣。若尚須予暫延此生、以收工作之效、則予誠不知奚擇。今予正徬徨於二者之間；衷心固願能早脫塵世、永與基督為伴；為本身計、蓋莫善於斯矣。
