But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me, for I would rather die than allow anyone to deprive me of this boast.

For my part I have used none of these rights, nor have I written these things that they may be applied in my case. For it would be better for me to die than for anyone to deprive me of my boast!

我在你們那裡有缺乏的時候，並沒有連累任何人，因為從馬其頓來的弟兄們，補足了我的缺乏。我在各方面都不讓自己成為你們的重擔，將來也是一樣。我有基督的真理在我裡面，在亞該亞一帶沒有人能阻止我這樣誇口。為甚麼呢？是我不愛你們嗎？神是知道的。我現在所作的，將來還要作，為了要斷絕那些投機分子的機會，不讓他們在所誇的事上，被人認為是跟我們一樣的。

如果別人在你們身上享有這種權利，我們不是更可以享有嗎？然而我們沒有用過這種權利，反而凡事容忍，免得我們攔阻了基督的福音。

也沒有白吃過誰的飯，反而辛苦勞碌，晝夜作工，免得加重你們任何一人的負擔。

他們是以做帳棚為業的，因為是同業，保羅就與他們同住，一同工作。

弟兄們，你們應該記得我們的辛苦和勞碌；我們把神的福音傳給你們的時候，怎樣晝夜作工，免得你們有人受累。

我這兩隻手，供應了我和同伴的需要，這是你們自己知道的。

並且勞苦，親手作工。被人咒罵，我們就祝福；遭受迫害，我們就忍受；

但無論誰使一個信我的小弟兄犯罪，倒不如拿一塊大磨石拴在他的頸項上，把他沉在深海裡。

除了我自己沒有成為你們的重擔以外，你們還有甚麼比不上別的教會呢？這一點委屈，請原諒我吧！好了，我打算第三次到你們那裡去，這一次也不會成為你們的重擔，因為我所要的不是你們的東西，而是你們自己。兒女不需要為父母積財，父母卻應該為兒女積財。至於我，我甘心樂意為你們的靈魂付上一切，鞠躬盡瘁。難道我越愛你們，就越得不到你們的愛嗎？算了！我沒有成為你們的重擔，卻是個狡猾的人，用詭計牢籠你們。我派到你們那裡去的人，我藉著誰佔過你們的便宜？我勸提多到你們那裡去，又派了那位弟兄一同去。提多佔過你們的便宜嗎？我們行事，不是同一個心靈嗎？不是同樣的步伐嗎？

掃羅卻殘害教會，逐家進去，連男帶女拉去坐監。

但我並不珍惜自己的性命，只求跑完我的路程，完成我從主耶穌所領受的職分，為神恩惠的福音作見證。

我所熱切期待和盼望的，就是在凡事上我都不會羞愧，只要滿有膽量，不論生死，總要讓基督在我身上照常被尊為大。因為我活著就是基督，我死了就有益處。但如果我仍在世上活著，能夠使我的工作有成果，我就不知道應該怎樣選擇了！我處於兩難之間，情願離世與基督同在，因為那是好得無比的。
