他人且操此權、況我乎、然我不為也、寧凡事容忍、免阻基督福音、

他人尚操此權於爾中、況我儕乎、然我儕未用此權、寧忍一切、免阻基督之福音、

If others have this right of support from you, shouldn’t we have it all the more? But we did not use this right. On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ.

Others have the right to receive help from you. Don’t we have even more right to do so? But we didn’t use that right. No, we have put up with everything. We didn’t want to keep the good news of Christ from spreading.

If others share this rightful claim on you, do not we even more? Nevertheless, we have not made use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ.

If you support others who preach to you, shouldn’t we have an even greater right to be supported? But we have never used this right. We would rather put up with anything than be an obstacle to the Good News about Christ.

If others have this right to receive benefits from you, don’t we even more? Nevertheless, we have not made use of this right; instead, we endure everything so that we will not hinder the gospel of Christ.

If others share the right over you, do we not more? Nevertheless, we did not use this right, but we endure all things so that we will cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ.

If others are partakers of this right over you, are we not even more? Nevertheless we have not used this right, but endure all things lest we hinder the gospel of Christ.

If others partake of this right over you, do not we yet more? Nevertheless we did not use this right; but we bear all things, that we may cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ.

If others have this right to receive benefits from you, don’t we even more? However, we have not made use of this right; instead we endure everything so that we will not hinder the gospel of Christ.

If others be partakers of[ this] power over you,[ are] not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.

然則吾果無報酬乎？曰：正惟吾傳福音而不受酬、而不享受權利、酬在其中矣。

顧吾之所以為此、且願守此不渝者、不欲予人以口實、而謂若輩之所誇亦同乎吾儕之所誇耳。

顧我本人迄未利用此制；吾之書此、亦非欲為己有所主張。何則、我寧死、不願人毀我之榮也。

豈因吾之薄於己而厚於爾、乃反獲罪戾乎？抑吾之傳道而未受爾之束修、果為不宜乎？吾嘗取資他會、以供爾之所需。前次吾在爾處、雖甚貧乏、亦未曾有累於爾、一惟仰給於來自馬其頓之兄弟。蓋吾在在以相累為戒、過去如此、今後亦當如此。我一日抱基督之道、無人能令吾之所以自誇於亞該亞境內者、中途而廢也。

哀哉明律士！爾曹奪去知識之管籥、己不願進、亦不容人之進也。』

又有進者、兄弟間有爭訟之事、已屬不是；孰若甘心抱屈、犯而不校之為善乎？

吾儕至今猶忍饑耐渴、衣衫襤褸、被毆受撻、無家可歸、躬自操作、不遑寧處；被人詬誶、我則福之；被人凌虐、我則耐之；

葆樂訪之、因其亦以製幕為業、遂與同寓而經營焉。

蓋吾儕之所以小心翼翼、不敢稍樹梗障者亦欲不辱使命而已。

職是之故、我雖屢欲詣爾、輒為事牽、迄今未克如願。

即於他人為非宗徒、於爾曹予固宗徒也。蓋爾曹之歸主、即吾為宗徒之佐證、

亦未嘗仰給於人、惟日夜躬自操作、以免加累於爾。吾人非無權要求供養也；顧欲以身作則、俾爾等知所取法耳。

是宜恆懷警惕、念我三年來不舍晝夜含淚訓爾之情。我今將爾付託於主及其恩寵之道；蓋惟斯能予爾以建立而使爾與諸聖共嗣洪基耳。吾未嘗貪圖他人之金銀衣服；我與從者所需、悉憑此兩手以供之；此乃爾所應知也。

予之書此、非欲愧爾、乃欲規爾。予視爾如愛兒、有所見不忍不告也。爾在同道中儘有千萬之導師、第愛爾以父母之愛者、恐亦不可多得耳。夫以福音之道使爾等因基督而得神生者、非我也耶？

我輩身充基督宗徒、不為不貴、然亦未嘗儼然自尊、求榮於爾、或求榮於人、惟知自謙自抑、赤忱與爾相處、一如慈母之煦嫗其子女；不惟授爾以天主福音、即為爾犧牲性命、亦所甘心；蓋情之所鍾、有不能自已者焉。兄弟當猶憶吾儕傳授天主福音時之如何艱辛困苦、躬自操作、夙夜不遑、以免加爾之累。

人即奴爾、吞爾、盜爾、批爾之頰、妄自尊大、爾且能容忍之；

且爾等所受之寵惠、亦何一不如其他教會乎？有所不如者、其惟吾之不以生計相累乎？吾望爾等勿以此見罪！爾等其注意、我欲第三次就爾、仍不擬增爾負擔。蓋吾所求者爾也、非爾之所有也。且兒女本無積財與父母之義務、惟父母對於兒女則有此義務耳。
