論到童身的人，我沒有主的命令，但我既蒙主憐恤能作忠心的人，就把自己的意見告訴你們。因現今的艱難，據我看來，人不如守素安常才好。

我說這話，原是准你們的，不是命你們的。

主賜給我們權柄，是要造就你們，並不是要敗壞你們；我就是為這權柄稍微誇口，也不至於慚愧。我說這話，免得你們以為我寫信是要威嚇你們；因為有人說：「他的信又沉重又厲害，及至見面，卻是氣貌不揚，言語粗俗的。」

我對着沒有嫁娶的和寡婦說，若他們常像我就好。

神的道理豈是從你們出來嗎？豈是單臨到你們嗎？若有人以為自己是先知，或是屬靈的，就該知道，我所寫給你們的是主的命令。

我成了愚妄人，是被你們強逼的。我本該被你們稱許才是。我雖算不了甚麼，卻沒有一件事在那些最大的使徒以下。

並且要以我主長久忍耐為得救的因由，就如我們所親愛的兄弟保羅，照着所賜給他的智慧寫了信給你們。他一切的信上也都是講論這事。信中有些難明白的，那無學問、不堅固的人強解，如強解別的經書一樣，就自取沉淪。

我不是自由的嗎？我不是使徒嗎？我不是見過我們的主耶穌嗎？你們不是我在主裏面所做之工嗎？假若在別人，我不是使徒，在你們，我總是使徒，因為你們在主裏正是我作使徒的印證。我對那盤問我的人就是這樣分訴：

論到你們信上所提的事，我說男不近女倒好。

所以，那棄絕的，不是棄絕人，乃是棄絕那賜聖靈給你們的神。

我說這話是為你們的益處，不是要牢籠你們，乃是要叫你們行合宜的事，得以殷勤服事主，沒有分心的事。
