Yes, a person goes about like a mere shadow. Indeed, they rush around in vain, gathering possessions without knowing who will get them.

For All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like a flower of the grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls,

Go, eat your bread with pleasure, and drink your wine with a cheerful heart, for God has already accepted your works.Let your clothes be white all the time, and never let oil be lacking on your head.Enjoy life with the wife you love all the days of your fleeting life, which has been given to you under the sun, all your fleeting days. For that is your portion in life and in your struggle under the sun.Whatever your hands find to do, do with all your strength, because there is no work, planning, knowledge, or wisdom in Sheol where you are going.

Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring— what your life will be! For you are like vapor that appears for a little while, then vanishes.

I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and enjoy the good life.It is also the gift of God whenever anyone eats, drinks, and enjoys all his efforts.

What then is my reward? To preach the gospel and offer it free of charge and not make full use of my rights in the gospel.

And the things you have prepared— whose will they be?’“ That’s how it is with the one who stores up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

He called his own servants and entrusted his possessions to them.To one he gave five talents, to another two talents, and to another one talent, depending on each one’s ability. If you knew that I reap where I haven’t sown and gather where I haven’t scattered,then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and I would have received my money back with interest when I returned.“‘ So take the talent from him and give it to the one who has ten talents.For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have more than enough. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.

“‘ Well done, good servant!’ he told him.‘ Because you have been faithful in a very small matter, have authority over ten towns.’“ The second came and said,‘ Master, your mina has made five minas.’“ So he said to him,‘ You will be over five towns.’“ And another came and said,‘ Master, here is your mina. I have kept it safe in a clothbecause I was afraid of you since you’re a harsh man: you collect what you didn’t deposit and reap what you didn’t sow.’“ He told him,‘ I will condemn you by what you have said, you evil servant! If you knew I was a harsh man, collecting what I didn’t deposit and reaping what I didn’t sow,why, then, didn’t you put my money in the bank? And when I returned, I would have collected it with interest.’So he said to those standing there,‘ Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.’“ But they said to him,‘ Master, he has ten minas.’“‘ I tell you, that to everyone who has, more will be given; and from the one who does not have, even what he does have will be taken away.

Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who richly provides us with all things to enjoy.Instruct them to do what is good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and willing to share,

but let the rich boast in his humiliation because he will pass away like a flower of the field.For the sun rises and, together with the scorching wind, dries up the grass; its flower falls off, and its beautiful appearance perishes. In the same way, the rich person will wither away while pursuing his activities.

Here is what I have seen to be good: It is appropriate to eat, drink, and experience good in all the labor one does under the sun during the few days of his life God has given him, because that is his reward.Furthermore, everyone to whom God has given riches and wealth, he has also allowed him to enjoy them, take his reward, and rejoice in his labor. This is a gift of God,for he does not often consider the days of his life because God keeps him occupied with the joy of his heart.

Give a portion to seven or even to eight, for you don’t know what disaster may happen on earth.

Come now, you rich people, weep and wail over the miseries that are coming on you.Your wealth has rotted and your clothes are moth-eaten.Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have stored up treasure in the last days.Look! The pay that you withheld from the workers who mowed your fields cries out, and the outcry of the harvesters has reached the ears of the Lord of Armies.You have lived luxuriously on the earth and have indulged yourselves. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.

But if that wicked servant says in his heart,‘ My master is delayed,’and starts to beat his fellow servants, and eats and drinks with drunkards,that servant’s master will come on a day he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know.

Now he said to the disciples,“ There was a rich man who received an accusation that his manager was squandering his possessions.So he called the manager in and asked,‘ What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you can no longer be my manager.’

Like one waking from a dream, Lord, when arising, you will despise their image.

There is nothing better for a person than to eat, drink, and enjoy his work. I have seen that even this is from God’s hand,because who can eat and who can enjoy life apart from him?

Rejoice, young person, while you are young, and let your heart be glad in the days of your youth. And walk in the ways of your heart and in the desire of your eyes; but know that for all of these things God will bring you to judgment.Remove sorrow from your heart, and put away pain from your flesh, because youth and the prime of life are fleeting.
