第有一語、不得不為兄弟告者、即人生在世、為日無多；故有妻當若無妻、

And do this because we know the time, that it is already the hour for us to awake from sleep, for our salvation is now nearer than when we became believers.The night has advanced toward dawn; the day is near. So then we must lay aside the works of darkness, and put on the weapons of light.

Come now, you who say,“ Today or tomorrow we will go into this or that town and spend a year there and do business and make a profit.”You do not know about tomorrow. What is your life like? For you are a puff of smoke that appears for a short time and then vanishes.You ought to say instead,“ If the Lord is willing, then we will live and do this or that.”But as it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

We must go out to him, then, outside the camp, bearing the abuse he experienced.For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.

those who use the world as though they were not using it to the full. For the present shape of this world is passing away.

And the world is passing away with all its desires, but the person who does the will of God remains forever.

“ O LORD, help me understand my mortality and the brevity of life! Let me realize how quickly my life will pass!Look, you make my days short-lived, and my life span is nothing from your perspective. Surely all people, even those who seem secure, are nothing but vapor.Surely people go through life as mere ghosts. Surely they accumulate worthless wealth without knowing who will eventually haul it away.”But now, O Lord, upon what am I relying? You are my only hope!

Having heard everything, I have reached this conclusion: Fear God and keep his commandments, because this is the whole duty of man.For God will evaluate every deed, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.

You bring their lives to an end and they“ fall asleep.” In the morning they are like the grass that sprouts up;in the morning it glistens and sprouts up; at evening time it withers and dries up.Yes, we are consumed by your anger; we are terrified by your wrath.You are aware of our sins; you even know about our hidden sins.Yes, throughout all our days we experience your raging fury; the years of our lives pass quickly, like a sigh.The days of our lives add up to seventy years, or eighty, if one is especially strong. But even one’s best years are marred by trouble and oppression. Yes, they pass quickly and we fly away.

A voice says,“ Cry out!” Another asks,“ What should I cry out?” The first voice responds:“ All people are like grass, and all their promises are like the flowers in the field.The grass dries up, the flowers wither, when the wind sent by the LORD blows on them. Surely humanity is like grass.The grass dries up, the flowers wither, but the decree of our God is forever reliable.”

For all flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of the grass; the grass withers and the flower falls off,

Whatever you find to do with your hands, do it with all your might, because there is neither work nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom in the grave, the place where you will eventually go.

For the culmination of all things is near. So be self- controlled and sober- minded for the sake of prayer.

Now, dear friends, do not let this one thing escape your notice, that a single day is like a thousand years with the Lord and a thousand years are like a single day.The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some regard slowness, but is being patient toward you, because he does not wish for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the life’s breath returns to God who gave it.“ Absolutely futile!” laments the Teacher,“ All of these things are futile!”

For no one knows what is best for a person during his life– during the few days of his fleeting life– for they pass away like a shadow. Nor can anyone tell him what the future will hold for him on earth.

Look, the LORD is ready to devastate the earth and leave it in ruins; he will mar its surface and scatter its inhabitants.Everyone will suffer– the priest as well as the people, the master as well as the servant, the elegant lady as well as the female attendant, the seller as well as the buyer, the borrower as well as the lender, the creditor as well as the debtor.

“ Man, born of woman, lives but a few days, and they are full of trouble.He grows up like a flower and then withers away; he flees like a shadow, and does not remain.

A person’s life is like grass. Like a flower in the field it flourishes,but when the hot wind blows by, it disappears, and one can no longer even spot the place where it once grew.
