那女子不忠，離開丈夫回到猶大伯利恆的父親家，住了四個月。後來，她丈夫帶著一個僕人和兩頭驢去見她，用好話勸她回去。那女子帶他去見自己的父親。她父親看見女婿來了，便熱情地接待他，

耶和華說：「我休你們母親的休書在哪裡呢？我把你們賣給了我哪一個債主呢？你們被賣是因為你們的罪惡，你們母親被休是因為你們的過犯。

耶和華說：「如果丈夫休掉妻子，妻子離去另嫁別人，前夫怎會再娶她呢？那樣做豈不完全玷污了土地嗎？你曾與許多情人苟合，現在要歸向我嗎？

一些法利賽人想試探耶穌，就來問祂：「男人可以休妻嗎？」

我也吩咐那些已婚的人，其實不是我吩咐，而是主吩咐：妻子不可離開丈夫，
