You say,“ I am allowed to do anything”— but not everything is good for you. And even though“ I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.

But I keep under my body, and bring[ it] into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that[ there is] nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him[ it is] unclean.But if thy brother be grieved with[ thy] meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.Let not then your good be evil spoken of:For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.For he that in these things serveth Christ[ is] acceptable to God, and approved of men.Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed[ are] pure; but[ it is] evil for that man who eateth with offence.[ It is] good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor[ any thing] whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.Hast thou faith? have[ it] to thyself before God. Happy[ is] he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because[ he eateth] not of faith: for whatsoever[ is] not of faith is sin.

Howbeit[ there is] not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat[ it] as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.

Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble[ you], and thereby many be defiled;Lest there[ be] any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol[ is] nothing in the world, and that[ there is] none other God but one.

For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds[ they are] without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

If others be partakers of[ this] power over you,[ are] not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
