Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also debated with him. Some said,“ What is this ignorant show-off trying to say?” Others replied,“ He seems to be a preacher of foreign deities”— because he was telling the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.

Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become a fool so that he can become wise.

As he was saying these things in his defense, Festus exclaimed in a loud voice,“ You’re out of your mind, Paul! Too much study is driving you mad.”

We rejoice when we are weak and you are strong. We also pray that you become fully mature.

For it is said,“ His letters are weighty and powerful, but his physical presence is weak and his public speaking amounts to nothing.”

“ Then they will hand you over to be persecuted, and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of my name.

So then, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.I am speaking as to sensible people. Judge for yourselves what I am saying.

“ You are blessed when they insult you and persecute you and falsely say every kind of evil against you because of me.

When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some began to ridicule him, but others said,“ We’d like to hear from you again about this.”

You will be hated by everyone because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.When they persecute you in one town, flee to another. For truly I tell you, you will not have gone through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.A disciple is not above his teacher, or a slave above his master.It is enough for a disciple to become like his teacher and a slave like his master. If they called the head of the house‘ Beelzebul,’ how much more the members of his household!

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. He was like someone people turned away from; he was despised, and we didn’t value him.

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is the power of God to us who are being saved.For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the intelligence of the intelligent.Where is the one who is wise? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn’t God made the world’s wisdom foolish?

He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and looked down on everyone else:

since you seek proof of Christ speaking in me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but powerful among you.For he was crucified in weakness, but he lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by God’s power.

So, whoever thinks he stands must be careful not to fall.

For you, being so wise, gladly put up with fools!

Paul, called as an apostle of Christ Jesus by God’s will, and Sosthenes our brother:To the church of God at Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called as saints, with all those in every place who call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord— both their Lord and ours.Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a person with understanding keeps silent.

Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to stumble, and I do not burn with indignation?

When Jehu came out to his master’s servants, they asked,“ Is everything all right? Why did this crazy person come to you?” Then he said to them,“ You know the sort and their ranting.”

I gave you milk to drink, not solid food, since you were not yet ready for it. In fact, you are still not ready,

But he said to me,“ My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me.So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and in difficulties, for the sake of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

But the person without the Spirit does not receive what comes from God’s Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to understand it since it is evaluated spiritually.

Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you, insult you, and slander your name as evil because of the Son of Man.

“ How can you claim,‘ We are wise; the law of the LORD is with us’? In fact, the lying pen of scribes has produced falsehood.The wise will be put to shame; they will be dismayed and snared. They have rejected the word of the LORD, so what wisdom do they really have?

You are already full! You are already rich! You have begun to reign as kings without us— and I wish you did reign, so that we could also reign with you!

Consequently, anyone who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.

The days of punishment have come; the days of retribution have come. Let Israel recognize it! The prophet is a fool, and the inspired man is insane, because of the magnitude of your iniquity and hostility.

If you are ridiculed for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

Whoever listens to you listens to me. Whoever rejects you rejects me. And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.”

Brothers and sisters, consider your calling: Not many were wise from a human perspective, not many powerful, not many of noble birth.Instead, God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong.God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world— what is viewed as nothing— to bring to nothing what is viewed as something,

I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”
