For we are co- workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.

you yourselves, as living stones, a spiritual house, are being built to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Don’t you yourselves know that you are God’s temple and that the Spirit of God lives in you?

Working together with him, we also appeal to you,“ Don’t receive the grace of God in vain.”

being rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with gratitude.

“ I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.Every branch in me that does not produce fruit he removes, and he prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit.You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.Remain in me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me.I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without me.If anyone does not remain in me, he is thrown aside like a branch and he withers. They gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned.If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you.My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be my disciples.

And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word by the accompanying signs.]

Then he said to his disciples,“ The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few.

“ Don’t you say,‘ There are still four more months, and then comes the harvest’? Listen to what I’m telling you: Open your eyes and look at the fields, because they are ready for harvest.The reaper is already receiving pay and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that the sower and reaper can rejoice together.For in this case the saying is true:‘ One sows and another reaps.’I sent you to reap what you didn’t labor for; others have labored, and you have benefited from their labor.”

This Jesus is the stone rejected by you builders, which has become the cornerstone.

“ The kingdom of God is like this,” he said.“ A man scatters seed on the ground.He sleeps and rises night and day; the seed sprouts and grows, although he doesn’t know how.The soil produces a crop by itself— first the blade, then the head, and then the full grain on the head.As soon as the crop is ready, he sends for the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,

And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, as God said: I will dwell and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.

But if I should be delayed, I have written so that you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

For as the earth produces its growth, and as a garden enables what is sown to spring up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.

I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.

to provide for those who mourn in Zion; to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, festive oil instead of mourning, and splendid clothes instead of despair. And they will be called righteous trees, planted by the LORD to glorify him.

Then he told them many things in parables, saying,“ Consider the sower who went out to sow.As he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.Other seed fell on rocky ground where it didn’t have much soil, and it grew up quickly since the soil wasn’t deep.But when the sun came up, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away.Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it.Still other seed fell on good ground and produced fruit: some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times what was sown.Let anyone who has ears listen.”

When he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching and said,“ By what authority are you doing these things? Who gave you this authority?”Jesus answered them,“ I will also ask you one question, and if you answer it for me, then I will tell you by what authority I do these things.Did John’s baptism come from heaven, or was it of human origin?” They discussed it among themselves,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ he will say to us,‘ Then why didn’t you believe him?’But if we say,‘ Of human origin,’ we’re afraid of the crowd, because everyone considers John to be a prophet.”So they answered Jesus,“ We don’t know.” And he said to them,“ Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.“ What do you think? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said,‘ My son, go work in the vineyard today.’“ He answered,‘ I don’t want to,’ but later he changed his mind and went.Then the man went to the other and said the same thing.‘ I will, sir,’ he answered, but he didn’t go.Which of the two did his father’s will?” They said,“ The first.” Jesus said to them,“ Truly I tell you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you didn’t believe him. Tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; but you, when you saw it, didn’t even change your minds then and believe him.“ Listen to another parable: There was a landowner, who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a watchtower. He leased it to tenant farmers and went away.When the time came to harvest fruit, he sent his servants to the farmers to collect his fruit.The farmers took his servants, beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.Again, he sent other servants, more than the first group, and they did the same to them.Finally, he sent his son to them.‘ They will respect my son,’ he said.“ But when the tenant farmers saw the son, they said to each other,‘ This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’So they seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those farmers?”“ He will completely destroy those terrible men,” they told him,“ and lease his vineyard to other farmers who will give him his fruit at the harvest.”Jesus said to them,“ Have you never read in the Scriptures: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is what the Lord has done and it is wonderful in our eyes?Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruit.Whoever falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will shatter him.”

You dug up a vine from Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it.You cleared a place for it; it took root and filled the land.The mountains were covered by its shade, and the mighty cedars with its branches.It sent out sprouts toward the Sea and shoots toward the River.

You visit the earth and water it abundantly, enriching it greatly. God’s stream is filled with water, for you prepare the earth in this way, providing people with grain.You soften it with showers and bless its growth, soaking its furrows and leveling its ridges.You crown the year with your goodness; your carts overflow with plenty.The wilderness pastures overflow, and the hills are robed with joy.The pastures are clothed with flocks and the valleys covered with grain. They shout in triumph; indeed, they sing.

You are to tell him: This is what the LORD of Armies says: Here is a man whose name is Branch; he will branch out from his place and build the LORD’s temple.Yes, he will build the LORD’s temple; he will bear royal splendor and will sit on his throne and rule. There will be a priest on his throne, and there will be peaceful counsel between the two of them.

Does the plowman plow every day to plant seed? Does he continuously break up and cultivate the soil?When he has leveled its surface, does he not then scatter black cumin and sow cumin? He plants wheat in rows and barley in plots, with spelt as their border.His God teaches him order; he instructs him.Certainly black cumin is not threshed with a threshing board, and a cart wheel is not rolled over the cumin. But black cumin is beaten out with a stick, and cumin with a rod.Bread grain is crushed, but is not threshed endlessly. Though the wheel of the farmer’s cart rumbles, his horses do not crush it.This also comes from the LORD of Armies. He gives wondrous advice; he gives great wisdom.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.

Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said,“ Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”He answered,“ The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man.The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one,and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.“ As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. “ In that day I will restore David’s fallen shelter— I will repair its broken walls and restore its ruins— and will rebuild it as it used to be,so that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations that bear my name,” declares the Lord, who will do these things. (niv)

But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. (niv)

May grain abound throughout the land; on the tops of the hills may it sway. May the crops flourish like Lebanon and thrive like the grass of the field. (niv)

In that day—“ Sing about a fruitful vineyard:I, the Lord, watch over it; I water it continually. I guard it day and night so that no one may harm it. (niv)

Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. (niv)

I will sing for the one I love a song about his vineyard: My loved one had a vineyard on a fertile hillside.He dug it up and cleared it of stones and planted it with the choicest vines. He built a watchtower in it and cut out a winepress as well. Then he looked for a crop of good grapes, but it yielded only bad fruit.“ Now you dwellers in Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard.What more could have been done for my vineyard than I have done for it? When I looked for good grapes, why did it yield only bad?Now I will tell you what I am going to do to my vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it will be destroyed; I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled.I will make it a wasteland, neither pruned nor cultivated, and briers and thorns will grow there. I will command the clouds not to rain on it.”The vineyard of the Lord Almighty is the nation of Israel, and the people of Judah are the vines he delighted in. And he looked for justice, but saw bloodshed; for righteousness, but heard cries of distress. (niv)

“ For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard.“ About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing.He told them,‘ You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’So they went.“ He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing.About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them,‘ Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’“‘ Because no one has hired us,’ they answered.“ He said to them,‘ You also go and work in my vineyard.’“ When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman,‘ Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’“ The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius.So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius.When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner.‘ These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said,‘ and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.’“ But he answered one of them,‘ I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius?Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. (niv)

Strangers will shepherd your flocks; foreigners will work your fields and vineyards. (niv)

I had planted you like a choice vine of sound and reliable stock. How then did you turn against me into a corrupt, wild vine? (niv)

how blessed you will be, sowing your seed by every stream, and letting your cattle and donkeys range free. (niv)

“ Listen then to what the parable of the sower means:When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path.The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy.But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful.But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”Jesus told them another parable:“ The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.“ The owner’s servants came to him and said,‘ Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’“‘ An enemy did this,’ he replied.“ The servants asked him,‘ Do you want us to go and pull them up?’“‘ No,’ he answered,‘ because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them.Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’” (niv)
