而掃羅則蹂躪教會、擅入人宅、逮捕男女信徒、下之於獄。

吾之狂誕、爾使之也。吾早應受爾等之保舉矣。吾固不足道也、然較諸聲望最隆之宗徒、亦何所欠缺乎？

天主運用其大能、賜我恩寵、令我得供役於福音。夫我乃諸聖中之至微者、竟亦蒙此殊恩、得在異邦人中弘宣基督不可思議之厚澤、

第聞昔日之逼辱同人、摧殘聖道者、今已憣然歸正、而弘揚聖道矣；

對此「新道、」予亦曾加以凌迫、無所不用其極、逮捕信男信女、下之於獄。此固司祭長與諸父老能為予作證者也。予且曾領彼等致眾兄弟之書、往大馬士革、欲將彼處奉此道者、縛解耶路撒冷處刑；

吾舊日在猶太教中之生活、固爾等所夙聞也。當時吾於天主之教會、迫辱摧殘、無所不用其極；

吾嘗自比諸最大之宗徒、亦未敢多讓也。

時掃羅氣燄逼人、必欲誅滅主之門徒。乃謁大司祭、求行文大馬士革各會堂、遇有此道中人、不論男女、盡縛解耶路撒冷。既就道、將抵大馬士革、倏見天光環照、其身仆地、聞聲曰：『掃羅、掃羅、迫我何甚！』曰：『主、爾何人？』主曰：『受迫耶穌。爾且起、入城、當示爾所當為。』同行者聞其聲而不見其人、皆噤然木立。掃羅起、啟目不能視、人攜其手、引入大馬士革。失明三日、飲食俱廢。其時大馬士革有門徒名亞拿尼亞、忽睹異象、聞主呼曰：『亞拿尼亞。』曰：『主、吾在是。』主曰：『爾且起、赴所謂正街者入樹德宅、訪笪爾西人掃羅、彼方祈禱。』（當時掃羅於異象中見一人名亞納尼亞者、手按其身、使之復明）亞拿尼亞曰：『主、歷聞人言、彼於耶路撒冷迫害聖徒、無所不用其極；近復受命於司祭長、有權縛解呼籲爾名者。』主曰：『第往、斯人乃吾特選之器、將以吾名播諸異族與列王、以及義塞子孫。吾且示之、彼為吾名、將如何備嘗艱苦。』亞拿尼亞遂往、入其室、手按之曰：『兄弟掃羅、途中顯爾前者、主耶穌也，主遣吾至、使爾復明而受聖神。』掃羅即覺有物如鱗、自目而墮、乃復明、起而受洗、遂進食而復健焉。掃羅與大馬士革門徒、同處數日、

以熱情論、固迫辱聖教會、不遺餘力者也。以守法論、固無懈可擊也。
