Then he appeared to the eleven themselves, while they were eating, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen him resurrected.

until the day he was taken up to heaven, after he had given orders by the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.To the same apostles also, after his suffering, he presented himself alive with many convincing proofs. He was seen by them over a forty- day period and spoke about matters concerning the kingdom of God.While he was with them, he declared,“ Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait there for what my Father promised, which you heard about from me.For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”So when they had gathered together, they began to ask him,“ Lord, is this the time when you are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”He told them,“ You are not permitted to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority.But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the earth.”After he had said this, while they were watching, he was lifted up and a cloud hid him from their sight.As they were still staring into the sky while he was going, suddenly two men in white clothing stood near themand said,“ Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking up into the sky? This same Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will come back in the same way you saw him go into heaven.”Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain called the Mount of Olives( which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away).When they had entered Jerusalem, they went to the upstairs room where they were staying. Peter and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James were there.All these continued together in prayer with one mind, together with the women, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.

Andrew brought Simon to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said,“ You are Simon, the son of John. You will be called Cephas”( which is translated Peter).

Now I mean this, that each of you is saying,“ I am with Paul,” or“ I am with Apollos,” or“ I am with Cephas,” or“ I am with Christ.”

On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the disciples had gathered together and locked the doors of the place because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Jesus came and stood among them and said to them,“ Peace be with you.”When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.So Jesus said to them again,“ Peace be with you. Just as the Father has sent me, I also send you.”And after he said this, he breathed on them and said,“ Receive the Holy Spirit.If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven; if you retain anyone’s sins, they are retained.”Now Thomas( called Didymus), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.The other disciples told him,“ We have seen the Lord!” But he replied,“ Unless I see the wounds from the nails in his hands, and put my finger into the wounds from the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will never believe it!”Eight days later the disciples were again together in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said,“ Peace be with you!”

Do we not have the right to the company of a believing wife, like the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas?

whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future. Everything belongs to you,

not by all the people, but by us, the witnesses God had already chosen, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

and saying,“ The Lord has really risen, and has appeared to Simon!”Then they told what had happened on the road, and how they recognized him when he broke the bread.While they were saying these things, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them,“ Peace be with you.”But they were startled and terrified, thinking they saw a ghost.Then he said to them,“ Why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?Look at my hands and my feet; it’s me! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones like you see I have.”When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.And while they still could not believe it( because of their joy) and were amazed, he said to them,“ Do you have anything here to eat?”So they gave him a piece of broiled fish,and he took it and ate it in front of them.Then he said to them,“ These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled.”Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures,and said to them,“ Thus it stands written that the Christ would suffer and would rise from the dead on the third day,and repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.You are witnesses of these things.And look, I am sending you what my Father promised. But stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”
