For if the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare for battle?

若吹无定的号声，谁能预备打仗呢？

若吹無定的號聲，誰能預備打仗呢？

又如果軍號所發的聲音不清楚，誰會準備作戰呢？

就是號筒罷、若發出無定的聲音來，誰能豫備出戰呢？

實際上，如果號角發出的聲音真的不清楚，誰會準備好出戰呢？

角聲無定、孰備戰乎、

如吹角而音無別、奚以備戰乎、

若角不發一定之聲、誰備戰乎、

再如吹角、若發音含混不明、其誰復鼓舞精神、從事戰鬥耶？

If, for example, the trumpet makes an unclear sound, who will get ready for battle?

For if the trumpet gave an uncertain sound, who would prepare himself for war?

“ When you go to war in your land against the enemy who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the Lord your God, and you will be saved from your enemies.

O my soul, my soul! I am pained in my very heart! My heart makes a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, Because you have heard, O my soul, The sound of the trumpet, The alarm of war.

He devours the distance with fierceness and rage; Nor does he come to a halt because the trumpet has sounded.At the blast of the trumpet he says,‘ Aha!’ He smells the battle from afar, The thunder of captains and shouting.

If a trumpet is blown in a city, will not the people be afraid? If there is calamity in a city, will not the Lord have done it?

And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him.”Then Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them,“ Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord.”And he said to the people,“ Proceed, and march around the city, and let him who is armed advance before the ark of the Lord.”So it was, when Joshua had spoken to the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the Lord advanced and blew the trumpets, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord followed them.The armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard came after the ark, while the priests continued blowing the trumpets.Now Joshua had commanded the people, saying,“ You shall not shout or make any noise with your voice, nor shall a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I say to you,‘ shout!’ Then you shall shout.”So he had the ark of the Lord circle the city, going around it once. Then they came into the camp and lodged in the camp.And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the Lord.Then seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord went on continually and blew with the trumpets. And the armed men went before them. But the rear guard came after the ark of the Lord, while the priests continued blowing the trumpets.And the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. So they did six days.But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that day only they marched around the city seven times.And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people:“ Shout, for the Lord has given you the city!Now the city shall be doomed by the Lord to destruction, it and all who are in it. Only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.And you, by all means abstain from the accursed things, lest you become accursed when you take of the accursed things, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.But all the silver and gold, and vessels of bronze and iron, are consecrated to the Lord; they shall come into the treasury of the Lord.”So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

So it shall be in that day: The great trumpet will be blown; They will come, who are about to perish in the land of Assyria, And they who are outcasts in the land of Egypt, And shall worship the Lord in the holy mount at Jerusalem.

Every one of the builders had his sword girded at his side as he built. And the one who sounded the trumpet was beside me.Then I said to the nobles, the rulers, and the rest of the people,“ The work is great and extensive, and we are separated far from one another on the wall.Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us.”So we labored in the work, and half of the men held the spears from daybreak until the stars appeared.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

when he sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people,then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head.He heard the sound of the trumpet, but did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who takes warning will save his life.But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.’

Then he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet into every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and torches inside the pitchers.And he said to them,“ Look at me and do likewise; watch, and when I come to the edge of the camp you shall do as I do:When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then you also blow the trumpets on every side of the whole camp, and say,‘ The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!’”

Blow the trumpet in Zion, And sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; For the day of the Lord is coming, For it is at hand:
