Now I desire to have you all speak with other languages, but rather that you would prophesy. For he is greater who prophesies than he who speaks with other languages, unless he interprets, that the assembly may be built up.

吾願爾眾、言諸國方言、最要者設教、蓋設教、較之言諸國方言為大、如言諸國方言、則當自譯、使會獲益、

我願爾曹皆言方言、更願爾為先知講道、蓋言方言者、若不解使教會建德、則為先知講道者、較彼為大、

吾固願爾等皆能操方言、顧吾尤望爾等能作預言。蓋操方言者、苟非自譯以裨會眾、則不若預言之為愈也。

I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified.

I would like all of you to speak in other languages. But I would rather have you prophesy. The person who prophesies is more helpful than those who speak in other languages. But that is not the case if someone explains what was said in the other languages. Then the whole church can be built up.

Or did it come to you alone?If any man thinks himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him recognize the things which I write to you, that they are the commandment of the Lord.But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.Therefore, brothers, desire earnestly to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking with other languages.Let all things be done decently and in order.

So also you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, seek that you may abound to the building up of the assembly.Therefore let him who speaks in another language pray that he may interpret.

Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his chosen men, answered,“ My lord Moses, forbid them!”Moses said to him,“ Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all Yahweh’s people were prophets, that Yahweh would put his Spirit on them!”

Follow after love and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.

God has set some in the assembly: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracle workers, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, and various kinds of languages.Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all miracle workers?Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with various languages? Do all interpret?

But he who prophesies speaks to men for their edification, exhortation, and consolation.He who speaks in another language edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the assembly.
