What should you do then, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each one has a song, has a lesson, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all these things be done for the strengthening of the church.

兄弟乎、是當若何、爾既集、或歌詩、或施教、或述啟示、或言方言、或譯方言、皆宜為建德而行、

What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up.

Brothers and sisters, what should we say then? When you come together, each of you brings something. You bring a hymn or a teaching or a message from God. You bring a message in another language or explain what was said in that language. Everything must be done to build up the church.

Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.

What is the outcome then, brothers and sisters? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. All things are to be done for edification.

So then, let us pursue what makes for peace and for building up one another.

To each person the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the benefit of all.For one person is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, and another the message of knowledge according to the same Spirit,to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,to another performance of miracles, to another prophecy, and to another discernment of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.

Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, just as you are in fact doing.

From him the whole body grows, fitted and held together through every supporting ligament. As each one does its part, the body grows in love.

Because of this I am writing these things while absent, so that when I arrive I may not have to deal harshly with you by using my authority– the Lord gave it to me for building up, not for tearing down!

Have you been thinking all this time that we have been defending ourselves to you? We are speaking in Christ before God, and everything we do, dear friends, is to build you up.

It is the same with you. Since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, seek to abound in order to strengthen the church.So then, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret.

And do everything in a decent and orderly manner.

You must let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but only what is beneficial for the building up of the one in need, that it may give grace to those who hear.

If someone speaks in a tongue, it should be two, or at the most three, one after the other, and someone must interpret.

to equip the saints for the work of ministry, that is, to build up the body of Christ,

The one who speaks in a tongue builds himself up, but the one who prophesies builds up the church.I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be strengthened.Now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I help you unless I speak to you with a revelation or with knowledge or prophecy or teaching?
