Follow the way of love. You should also want the gifts the Holy Spirit gives. Most of all, you should want the gift of prophecy.

Be loving in everything you do.

Don’t fail to use the gift the Holy Spirit gave you. He gave it to you through a prophecy from God. It was given when the elders placed their hands on you.

Try your best to live in peace with everyone. Try hard to be holy. Without holiness no one will see the Lord.

Suppose anyone thinks they are a prophet. Or suppose they think they have other gifts given by the Holy Spirit. They should agree that what I am writing to you is the Lord’s command.

Don’t treat prophecies as if they weren’t important.

But you are a man of God. Run away from all these things. Try hard to do what is right and godly. Have faith, love and gentleness. Hold on to what you believe.

The three most important things to have are faith, hope and love. But the greatest of them is love.

But the person who prophesies speaks to people. That person prophesies to make people stronger, to give them hope, and to comfort them.Anyone who speaks in other languages builds up only themselves. But the person who prophesies builds up the church.I would like all of you to speak in other languages. But I would rather have you prophesy. The person who prophesies is more helpful than those who speak in other languages. But that is not the case if someone explains what was said in the other languages. Then the whole church can be built up.

The Lord hates how sinners live. But he loves those who run after what is right.

But suppose unbelievers or visitors come in while everyone is prophesying. Then they will feel guilty about their sin. They will be judged by all.The secrets of their hearts will be brought out into the open. They will fall down and worship God. They will exclaim,“ God is really here among you!”

But above all, you should want the more important gifts. But now I will show you the best way of all.Suppose I speak in the languages of human beings or of angels. If I don’t have love, I am only a loud gong or a noisy cymbal.Suppose I have the gift of prophecy. Suppose I can understand all the secret things of God and know everything about him. And suppose I have enough faith to move mountains. If I don’t have love, I am nothing at all.Suppose I give everything I have to poor people. And suppose I give myself over to a difficult life so I can brag. If I don’t have love, I get nothing at all.Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not want what belongs to others. It does not brag. It is not proud.It does not dishonor other people. It does not look out for its own interests. It does not easily become angry. It does not keep track of other people’s wrongs.Love is not happy with evil. But it is full of joy when the truth is spoken.It always protects. It always trusts. It always hopes. It never gives up.Love never fails. But prophecy will pass away. Speaking in languages that had not been known before will end. And knowledge will pass away.What we know now is not complete. What we prophesy now is not perfect.

Give praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing. Those blessings come from the heavenly world. They belong to us because we belong to Christ.

Anyone who wants to be godly and loving finds life, success and honor.

She must be well known for the good things she does. That includes bringing up children. It includes inviting guests into her home. It includes washing the feet of the Lord’s people. It includes helping those who are in trouble. A widow should spend her time doing all kinds of good things.

They must turn away from evil and do good. They must look for peace and go after it.The Lord’s eyes look on godly people, and he blesses them. His ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord doesn’t bless those who do evil.”( Psalm 34:12–16)Who is going to hurt you if you really want to do good?

The Lord says,“ Listen to me, you who want to do what is right. Pay attention, you who look to me. Consider the rock you were cut out of. Think about the rock pit you were dug from.

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; (niv)

Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (niv)
