保罗给他们按手，圣灵就降在他们身上，他们开始说方言和说预言。

既然神提到“新的约”，那么第一个约就成为旧的了；而那渐旧渐衰的必然很快消逝了。

如今常存的有信，有望，有爱这三样，其中最大的是爱。

我若能说人间的方言，甚至天使的语言，却没有爱，我就成为鸣的锣、响的钹一般。我若有先知讲道的能力，也明白各样的奥秘，各样的知识，而且有齐备的信心，使我能够移山，却没有爱，我就算不了什么。

因为在基督耶稣里，受割礼不受割礼都没有功效，惟独使人发出仁爱的信心才有功效。

他们都被圣灵充满，就按着圣灵所赐的口才说起别国的话来。

等那完全的来到，这有限的必消逝。

又有人能行异能，又有人能作先知，又有人能辨别诸灵，又有人能说方言，又有人能翻方言。

论以东。万军之耶和华如此说：提幔不再有智慧了吗？聪明人的谋略都用尽了吗？他们的智慧尽归无有了吗？

但我已经为你祈求，使你不至于失了信心。你回头以后，要坚固你的弟兄。”

神在教会所设立的：第一是使徒；第二是先知；第三是教师；其次是行异能的；再次是医病的恩赐，帮助人的，治理事的，说方言的。难道个个都是使徒吗？难道个个都是先知吗？难道个个都是教师吗？难道个个都是行异能的吗？难道个个都是有医病的恩赐吗？难道个个都是说方言的吗？难道个个都是翻方言的吗？

所以，我的弟兄们，你们要切慕作先知讲道的恩赐，不要禁止说方言。
