保羅為他們按手，聖靈就降在他們身上，他們就用各種的語言講話，並且說預言。

神既然說到新的約，就是把前約當作舊的了；那變成陳舊衰老的，就快要消逝了。

現在常存的有信、望、愛這三樣，其中最大的是愛。

我若能說世人和天使的方言，卻沒有愛，我就成了鳴的鑼、響的鈸一樣。我若有先知講道的恩賜，也明白各樣的奧祕，各樣的知識；並且有全備的信，叫我能夠移山，卻沒有愛，我就算不得甚麼。

因為在基督耶穌裡，受割禮或不受割禮，都沒有用處，唯有那藉著愛表達出來的信，才有用處。

他們都被聖靈充滿，就照著聖靈所賜給他們的口才，用別種語言說出話來。

等那完全的來到，這部分的就要過去了。

另有人可以行神蹟，另有人可以講道，另有人可以辨別諸靈，也有人能說各種的方言，也有人能翻譯方言。

論到以東，萬軍之耶和華這樣說：“提幔再沒有智慧嗎？聰明人已經計窮才盡嗎？他們的智慧都消失了嗎？

但我已經為你祈求，叫你的信心不至失掉。你回頭的時候，要堅固你的弟兄。”

神在教會裡所設立的，第一是使徒，第二是先知，第三是教師，其次是行神蹟的，再其次是有醫病恩賜的，幫助人的，治理事的，說各種方言的。難道都是使徒嗎？都是先知嗎？都是教師嗎？都是行神蹟的嗎？都是有醫病恩賜的嗎？都是說方言的嗎？都是翻譯方言的嗎？

所以我的弟兄們，你們要熱切地追求講道的恩賜，也不要禁止說方言。
