  • Romans 12:6-8
According to the grace given to us, we have different gifts: If prophecy, use it according to the standard of one’s faith;if service, in service; if teaching, in teaching;if exhorting, in exhortation; giving, with generosity; leading, with diligence; showing mercy, with cheerfulness.
  • 1 Corinthians 14 19
yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, in order to teach others also, than 10,000 words in another language.
  • 1 Peter 4 10-1 Peter 4 11
Based on the gift each one has received, use it to serve others, as good managers of the varied grace of God.If anyone speaks, it should be as one who speaks God’s words; if anyone serves, it should be from the strength God provides, so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ in everything. To Him belong the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
  • 1 Corinthians 14 12
So also you— since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, seek to excel in building up the church.
  • Ephesians 4:7-12
Now grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of the Messiah’s gift. For it says: When He ascended on high, He took prisoners into captivity; He gave gifts to people. But what does“ He ascended” mean except that He descended to the lower parts of the earth? The One who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things. And He personally gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, for the training of the saints in the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ,
  • 1 Corinthians 14 17

  • 1 Corinthians 14 5
I wish all of you spoke in other languages, but even more that you prophesied. The person who prophesies is greater than the person who speaks in languages, unless he interprets so that the church may be built up.
  • Matthew 25:14-30
“ For it is just like a man going on a journey. He called his own slaves and turned over his possessions to them.To one he gave five talents; to another, two; and to another, one— to each according to his own ability. Then he went on a journey. Immediatelythe man who had received five talents went, put them to work, and earned five more.In the same way the man with two earned two more. But the man who had received one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money.“ After a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. The man who had received five talents approached, presented five more talents, and said,‘ Master, you gave me five talents. Look, I’ve earned five more talents.’“ His master said to him,‘ Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy!’“ Then the man with two talents also approached. He said,‘ Master, you gave me two talents. Look, I’ve earned two more talents.’“ His master said to him,‘ Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy!’“ Then the man who had received one talent also approached and said,‘ Master, I know you. You’re a difficult man, reaping where you haven’t sown and gathering where you haven’t scattered seed.So I was afraid and went off and hid your talent in the ground. Look, you have what is yours.’“ But his master replied to him,‘ You evil, lazy slave! If you knew that I reap where I haven’t sown and gather where I haven’t scattered, then you should have deposited my money with the bankers. And when I returned I would have received my money back with interest.“‘ So take the talent from him and give it to the one who has 10 talents. For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have more than enough. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.And throw this good-for-nothing slave into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

It follows that speaking in other languages is intended as a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers. But prophecy is not for unbelievers but for believers. Therefore, if the whole church assembles together and all are speaking in other languages and people who are uninformed or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your minds? But if all are prophesying and some unbeliever or uninformed person comes in, he is convicted by all and is judged by all.The secrets of his heart will be revealed, and as a result he will fall facedown and worship God, proclaiming,“ God is really among you.”What then is the conclusion, brothers? Whenever you come together, each one has a psalm, a teaching, a revelation, another language, or an interpretation. All things must be done for edification.
