飯後，他照樣拿起杯來，說：“這杯是用我的血所立的新約，這血是為你們流的。

因此，他作了新約的中保，藉著他的死，使人在前約之下的過犯得到救贖，就叫那些蒙召的人，得著永遠基業的應許。凡有遺囑（“遺囑”或譯：“約”，與17節同），必須證實立遺囑的人死了；因為人死了，遺囑才能確立，立遺囑的人還活著的時候，遺囑決不生效。因此，前約並不是沒有用血立的：當日摩西按照律法，向所有人民宣布了各樣的誡命，就拿牛犢（好些抄本在此有“和山羊”）的血和水，用朱紅色的羊毛與牛膝草，灑在律法書上和人民身上，說：“這就是神規定你們立約的血。”

願賜平安的神，就是那憑著永約的血，把群羊的大牧人我們的主耶穌，從死人中領出來的那一位，

他使我們有資格作新約的僕役，這新約不是從儀文來的，而是從聖靈來的；因為儀文會使人死，而聖靈卻使人活。

我們為福杯祝禱的時候，難道不是共享基督的血嗎？我們擘餅的時候，難道不是共享基督的身體嗎？

但是他們的心思遲鈍，因為直到今日，他們誦讀舊約的時候，這帕子仍然存在，沒有揭開，唯有在基督裡才能把這帕子廢掉。

因此，無論甚麼人若用不合適的態度吃主的餅，喝主的杯，就是得罪主的身體、主的血了。所以人應當省察自己，然後才吃這餅，喝這杯。
