In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying,“ This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

飯後，祂又舉起杯來，說：「這杯是用我的血立的新約，這血是為你們流的。

因此，祂是新約的中保，藉著死亡救贖了觸犯舊約的人，好叫那些蒙召的人得到所應許的永恆基業。凡是遺囑，必須等到立遺囑的人死了以後才能生效。如果立遺囑的人依然健在，遺囑就不能生效。正因如此，連立舊約也需要用血才能生效。摩西依照律法向猶太人頒佈所有誡命之後，便用紅色的羊毛和牛膝草蘸了牛犢和山羊的血以及水，灑在律法書和百姓身上，說：「這是上帝用來與你們立約的血。」

願賜平安的上帝，就是那位憑著立永恆之約的血使群羊的大牧人——我主耶穌從死裡復活的上帝，

祂使我們能夠擔任新約的執事。這新約不是用律法條文立的，而是聖靈的工作，因為律法條文帶給人死亡，但聖靈賜給人生命。

領聖餐時，我們為那福杯獻上感謝，這不表示我們有份於基督的血嗎？我們吃掰開的餅，這不表示我們有份於基督的身體嗎？

但以色列人的心剛硬，直到今日，他們每逢讀舊約的時候，同樣的帕子還在那裡，沒有揭去。因為只有在基督裡，那帕子才能被除去。

因此，無論是誰，若以不正確的心態吃主的餅、喝主的杯，就是得罪主的身體和主的血。所以，人要先自我省察，才可以吃這餅喝這杯。
