In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good.

我现今吩咐你们的话，不是称赞你们；因为你们聚会不是受益，乃是招损。

我以此諭爾、非譽之也、以爾會集、非致益而致損、

今我不許爾、以爾同會所行、無益而有損焉、

今我以此諭爾時、亦告爾、我不能嘉獎爾、因爾會集非致益、乃致損也、

爾中尚有一事、予實未敢恭維；以爾等聚會、非惟無益、且有損焉。

In the following matters, I don’t praise you. Your meetings do more harm than good.

But in the following instructions I do not commend you, because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse.

But in the following instructions, I cannot praise you. For it sounds as if more harm than good is done when you meet together.

Now in giving this instruction I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse.

or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.

Don’t you have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God by humiliating those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you? Certainly not in this matter!

So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and inquirers or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind?

“‘ Do not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in their guilt.

not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another— and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

“‘ Will you steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury, burn incense to Baal and follow other gods you have not known,and then come and stand before me in this house, which bears my Name, and say,“ We are safe”— safe to do all these detestable things?

“ Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet. Declare to my people their rebellion and to the descendants of Jacob their sins.For day after day they seek me out; they seem eager to know my ways, as if they were a nation that does what is right and has not forsaken the commands of its God. They ask me for just decisions and seem eager for God to come near them.‘ Why have we fasted,’ they say,‘ and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?’“ Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers.Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high.

Anyone who is hungry should eat something at home, so that when you meet together it may not result in judgment. And when I come I will give further directions.

What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up.

I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the traditions just as I passed them on to you.

Better is open rebuke than hidden love.

So then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat,

Stop bringing meaningless offerings! Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations— I cannot bear your worthless assemblies.Your New Moon feasts and your appointed festivals I hate with all my being. They have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them.

For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.
