Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written:“ The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”

So don’t worship statues of gods, as some of them did. It is written,“ The people sat down to eat and drink. Then they got up to dance wildly in front of their god.”( Exodus 32:6)

or worship idols as some of them did. As the Scriptures say,“ The people celebrated with feasting and drinking, and they indulged in pagan revelry.”

Don’t become idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and got up to party.

Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written:“ The people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.”

They made a calf in Horeb and worshiped a metal image.They exchanged the glory of God for the image of an ox that eats grass.

Then the Lord said to me,‘ Arise, go down quickly from here, for your people whom you have brought from Egypt have acted corruptly. They have turned aside quickly out of the way that I commanded them; they have made themselves a metal image.’

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,

But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler— not even to eat with such a one.

And I looked, and behold, you had sinned against the Lord your God. You had made yourselves a golden calf. You had turned aside quickly from the way that the Lord had commanded you.So I took hold of the two tablets and threw them out of my two hands and broke them before your eyes.Then I lay prostrate before the Lord as before, forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all the sin that you had committed, in doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord to provoke him to anger.For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure that the Lord bore against you, so that he was ready to destroy you. But the Lord listened to me that time also.And the Lord was so angry with Aaron that he was ready to destroy him. And I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.Then I took the sinful thing, the calf that you had made, and burned it with fire and crushed it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust. And I threw the dust of it into the brook that ran down from the mountain.

Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses,“ There is a noise of war in the camp.”

And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf. And they said,“ These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”

And as soon as he came near the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, Moses’ anger burned hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain.

Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature.In the Law it is written,“ By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.”Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.

However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through former association with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
