These things happened as a warning to us, so that we would not crave evil things as they did,

And don’t forget Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, which were filled with immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. Those cities were destroyed by fire and serve as a warning of the eternal fire of God’s judgment.

Then I won’t need to strike again, destroying their homes.’ But no, they get up early to continue their evil deeds.

So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.

These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age.

And that water is a picture of baptism, which now saves you, not by removing dirt from your body, but as a response to God from a clean conscience. It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Now the Lord sent a wind that brought quail from the sea and let them fall all around the camp. For miles in every direction there were quail flying about three feet above the ground.So the people went out and caught quail all that day and throughout the night and all the next day, too. No one gathered less than fifty bushels! They spread the quail all around the camp to dry.But while they were gorging themselves on the meat— while it was still in their mouths— the anger of the Lord blazed against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague.So that place was called Kibroth hattaavah( which means“ graves of gluttony”) because there they buried the people who had craved meat from Egypt.

Still, everyone died— from the time of Adam to the time of Moses— even those who did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did. Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come.

For Christ did not enter into a holy place made with human hands, which was only a copy of the true one in heaven. He entered into heaven itself to appear now before God on our behalf.

He rained down meat as thick as dust— birds as plentiful as the sand on the seashore!He caused the birds to fall within their camp and all around their tents.The people ate their fill. He gave them what they craved.But before they satisfied their craving, while the meat was yet in their mouths,the anger of God rose against them, and he killed their strongest men. He struck down the finest of Israel’s young men.

In the wilderness their desires ran wild, testing God’s patience in that dry wasteland.So he gave them what they asked for, but he sent a plague along with it.
