你若因食物使弟兄忧愁，就不是按着爱心行事。基督已经为他死，你不可因你的食物使他败坏。所以，不可让你们的善被人毁谤。因为上帝的国不在乎饮食，而在乎公义、和平及圣灵中的喜乐。凡这样服侍基督的，就为上帝所喜悦，又为人所赞许。所以，我们务要追求和平与彼此造就的事。不可因食物毁坏上帝的工作。一切都是洁净的，但有人因食物使人跌倒，这在他就是恶了。无论是吃肉是喝酒，是什么别的事，使弟兄跌倒，一概不做，才是善的。

可是，你们要谨慎，免得你们这自由竟成了软弱人的绊脚石。若有人见你这有知识的在偶像的庙里坐席，而这人的良心是软弱的，他岂不放胆去吃那祭过偶像的食物吗？因此，基督为他死的那软弱弟兄，也就因你的知识沉沦了。你们这样得罪弟兄，伤了他们软弱的良心，就是得罪基督。所以，食物若使我的弟兄跌倒，我就永远不吃肉，免得使我的弟兄跌倒了。
