如果你为了食物使你的弟兄忧愁，你就不再是凭着爱心行事了。你不可因着你的食物，使基督已经替他死了的人灭亡。所以，不可使你们看为好的被人毁谤；因为神的国不在于吃喝，而在于公义、和睦，以及圣灵里的喜乐。这样服事基督的人，必蒙神喜悦，又得众人嘉许。所以，我们总要追求和睦的事，与彼此造就的事。不可因食物的缘故拆毁神的工作。一切都是洁净的，但人若因食物绊倒弟兄，对他来说，这就是恶事了。无论是吃肉，是喝酒，或是什么使你的弟兄跌倒的事，一律不要作才好。

然而你们要谨慎，免得你们这自由成了软弱的人的绊脚石。因为如果有人看见你这有知识的人，在偶像的庙里吃喝，他的良心若是软弱，他不就放胆去吃那祭过偶像的食物吗？因此，基督已经为他死了的那软弱的弟兄，就因你的知识而灭亡了。你们这样得罪弟兄，伤了他们软弱的良心，就是得罪基督了。所以，如果食物使我的弟兄跌倒，我就永远不再吃肉，免得使我的弟兄跌倒了。
